The problem with black skin is the variety and range of tones. There is equal variety in caucasian skin but the range is much narrower and the difference tends to be straightforward: magenta and yellow will be proportional throughout the range; the difference will be how far ahead of cyan they run. Right now I'm looking at the Ice Eggs prints - one Auto and one True - 3 ft under a 33" soft box with a 55W CFL bulb at 5000K. The Auto is about 1/3 to `1/2 "stop" too light, IMO, as it's losing highlights. (looks pretty good in dimmer light, however). The True is looking like a "dark and stormy night" - about 2/3 to 1… -

Thanks for those additional images, and for including full EXIF. Image sharpness does not seem to be a problem with either lens. The Canon EF 40mm f/2.8 STM is sharper wide open than the "kit" EF-S 18-55mm IS STM, but that's to be expected as kit lenses are made to be inexpensive and highly affordable, sacrificing ultimate…
