Re: A Polite Discussion on the Relative Merits of Film and Digital Photography
For the most part, I went at this whole thing backwards. I shot point & shoot with film for a number of years, and then got a digital point and shoot. People told me I had a "knack" for composition (isn't it nice when people are polite ;-) ) so I got a digital SLR and took a few field classes and was happy with some of my… -
Re: Anybody doing their own framing?
mounting prints Joel, For 35 years my father ran a gallery in the "Highlands" (read as "artsy part of town") in Louisville KY. Picture framing was his "bread & butter", he's framed a great many originals for artists and collectors, including the originals to many KY Derby posters. So here's what dear old Dad had to say...… -
Re: One minute at Grand Teton National Park
Thanks, this was definitely one of those trips that makes it all worth it. I might have to do that :) Hey! Just because I call my shots cliche doesn't mean you get to too! We couldn't see the barns and could barely see the mountains when we were there in the morning, we overshot the barn by a hundred yards or so, but once… -
Re: Roller bags
Hey Diva, After tiring of lugging backpacks, etc., I finally bought this roller bag before this year's wedding season. My back thanks me and because I wear suits when I shoot weddings the Roadie II made all the difference for me being able to dress as I like. The roller handle is sturdy and the wheels are inline skate… -
Re: Proper setup for night photography
Hello all; I'm back from my 4000+ mile road trip and my attempt to shoot the Milky Way at Glacier National Park was thwarted by the brightest half moon I've seen in a while. I was out on a beach at Lake MacDonald all setup on my borrowed tripod with my straight 35 mm lens opened fully and the ISO set to 3200. The camera… -
Re: Nikon D700 and 2 lenses submerged for almost an hour!
The lenses are almost certainly going to be a loss. When water from a lake or river gets inside, it leaves enough residue to render the lens unusable. The lens would have to be completely dismantled, cleaned and reassembled, and the electronics replaced, then lubricated and adjusted, resulting in costs beyond the value of… -
Re: Exotic Feline Rescue Center
Hi Paul, I think the chain link fencing makes it pretty challenging, especially with typical DSLR size lenses, which are way too large to shoot through the openings in the fencing. I did some try shooting with a point and shoot to be able to shoot through the openings in the fencing. I also used a 28-300mm lens for some… -
Re: Saturday Market
Hi Sam, well, after looking at it, my mats/bags probably cost me about another $50 more than I recalled... but still cheap. They are not museum grade quality mats, but they aren't made of paper sacks either - got them from RediMat.com... http://www.redimat.com/products/suppies_redipak/pakbc_smb.html I used Costco for the… -
Re: Travelling with gear at the handluggage
I travel quite often with all kinds of camera gear. Basically, Alex, my main question is: what type of gear are you hoping to transport, and what is your photographic endeavor? For example a traveling wedding photographer will want to pack their gear VERY differently than a traveling backpacker / hiker, etc. I've been… -
Re: Useing a slide projector for backdrops
I presume you mean a projected background. I've not used or seen one for 35 years or so. There are 2 - different methods: Front screen projection. Rear screen projection. Front screen projection gained the most press years ago, because it could be accomplished in a smaller space, more typical to home studios. Rear screen…
