Tenba Digital Backpack DB-17C
I have been searching for a long time for a backpack that can be used as a carry on item, hold a lot of gear and be comfortable. I was pointed in the right direction by Tugrik. He posted a link to Tenbagear.com. I have a few of their other cases and bags, but had not seen this new line of bags. I searched the site and came… -
Re: Ivring Penn article in NY Times
Irving Penn links, a few Wow! I had forgotten what a contribution Irving Penn has made to the photographic community and the world at large. To try to condense his works to a few pieces is to ignore or diminish other works. It is like trying to show a glass of water to someone and have them imagine an Ocean. I attempted to… -
Re: Apertures for Landscapes
Something else to keep in mind is where your lens is strongest at; if you can get adequate DOF at f/8, and the lens is best at f/8, and is falling off at f/11, there's no point is using anything higher than f/8 (for example). I use the MTF values for my lenses from here: http://www.photozone.de/Reviews/overview Pick your… -

Re: What's your story?
How old are you? 46 (damn time flies) Where do you live? Booborowie, South Australia... which for the non-Aussies (and some of the "locals" amongst us) is 33 kilometres (16 miles) northeast of the Clare Valley, where some of Australia's finest wines are produced. We have a modest little house on 28 acres and our nearest… -
Re: Are the Smugmug servers overloaded?
1316/396 from Tampa Bay Road Runner. That's a bit thin, since I know my line is good for 4000-5000 to, say, Speakeasy Atlanta. Alas, I can't do a 'good' traceroute at the moment conveniently (WinMTR requires admin privs on 2000, and no linux boxen in the room -- and windows' traceroute is ... less than useful... but I… -

Anniversary V California Coast
My wife and I just celebrated five years of matrimonial bliss. At her request, we took one of our semi-regular trips to the coast. We overnighted in Santa Barbara, Solvang, and Cambria. Here are a few of the favorite photos along with a little text. We started off in downtown Ventura to poke around the shops. Before long,… -
Re: Suggestion for travel lens
Update: Good thing I'm not superstitious or I would start to think I am jinxed, at least when it comes to recent orders for photo gear. First I dragged my feet a bit too long and missed the KEH lens. But B&H had a 9+ listed for 46% off the new price which still seemed like a pretty good deal so I ordered it. It arrived… -
Re: Dark skin
The problem with black skin is the variety and range of tones. There is equal variety in caucasian skin but the range is much narrower and the difference tends to be straightforward: magenta and yellow will be proportional throughout the range; the difference will be how far ahead of cyan they run. Pale skin will have cyan…
