Re: Product Photography
The basics I am a product photographer for a large-ish American manufacturer. I started with the company as a support photographer and offset printer over 30 years ago. I've held several different positions at the company over the years, but now I am the principal photographer. (I did an 8 year stint in I.S. just prior,… -
Re: Why are there significantly more Canon posts than Nikon
It is a complete toss-up as long as you are not a pro Nikon = truly outstanding "kit" lenses. Exhbit #1: the 18-70, which can be had for under $200 used. The 18-200VR sells used under $600. I just saw an 18-55VR go for $140. Canon has improved their kit lenses, but som of them are still nothing to write home about. Canon =… -
Re: Subjective WB Question
Here's some non-subjective input based on numbers. In image #1, I put sample points in four places to sample the color values, two on her face, one on the white lettering on the uniform and one on her dark shirt right above the red vneck. I then switched the color sampler for the two points on the face to show me CMYK… -
Re: Opinions on Canon EF-S 10-22 and 17-85
Every 'pro' camera except the 1Ds series and the new D3 uses a crop sensor. Even in the Canon world I'd heard the 1D2n outsold the 1Ds2 by 30 or 40 to one. Nikons D2x has been a staple for years and has an APS-C sensor. Tend to find that the 1Ds series is used in preference to medium-format where image output size is king.… -

Re: Sensor cleaning
Cleaning the "Wet" way works! EDIT: OOOPS - forgot to mention that YMMV - but It worked for me. After reading all the posts in this thread, I figured I would take a look at the condition of my sensor. I thought it would be pretty good. So, I mounted my 28-75 onto the camera, stopped it all the way down, zoomed all the way… -
Re: Justi's Abrasive LPS Critique thread
#28 Hamster- After hours Theme: Looks sinful to me. Aesthetics: There is a lot I dig about this. The red cast is a good choice. The DOF keeps you wondering about the contents of that screen. The wedding ring, classic. This is a good shot. But for god's sake man, isn't it time to upgrade that Mac? #29 Sherstone- Reverend… -
Re: Street and PJ Questions--No pics from me.
Welcome! Let me second virtually everything Mikepenn has said, and add to it a bit. First rule of street photography - zoom with your feet, not your lens. Pick a focal length - Mike likes something around 20 mm, I prefer something in the 28-50ish range. But the point is to pick a focal length and get used to it; doing so… -
Re: China October 2011
Following the shopping area it was time to go look at a silk shop. We were on a tour and this is one of the prices you pay for traveling with a tour group. However we were interested in looking for another silk comforter cover and were interested in what the shop might offer. The visit began with the usual “how silk is… -
Re: Public Beta: Lightroom plugin 1.0.4.x
Sample Debug log Here is a debug log. Looks like the timeout is 5 minutes? With 5 retries? The connection I am using is in a scandalous state (broadband at dial-up speeds!). I think these would work properly if they had longer timeouts. Differentiation between a slow connection, and one that has stopped altogether (i.e. a…
