Hildewintera Apollonia
Some more cactus flower images left unprocessed (since 2020 this time) until now. This hybrid has colours quite close to those of the parents but the flower is much larger and more open. Olympus EM-1, (aperture priority), Olympus 4/3 50mm f2 macro, 1/50 sec at f11 ISO 400, hand-held. The stereo is crosseye. Harold -
Expanded Fruiting Bodies of Slime Mould Arcyria denudata
This is the species I find most frequently but this is, by far, the largest colony I have seen of the species. First two: Olympus EM-1 (aperture priority), Olympus 4/3 50mm f2 macro at f6.3 then 7.1 Other three: Olympus EM-1 (aperture priority), Olympus 4/3 x2 TC, Olympus 4/3 50mm f2 macro at f11. When they mature, the corners fold in to give a pointed shape with a slot for emerging spores. This colony was on a dead twig. Olympus EM-1 (manual… -
Two Disappointing Images May Make a Reasonably Good Stereo Pair
I had just received a Schneider lens and had been seeing what extension it need on my FF A7r3. I had placed an M39 to M42 converter on it and was using M42 tubes, including a helicoid for fine focus. 160mm between the back of the lens and the M42 to E adapter gave a FOV 35mm wide, 1:1. 210mm extension gave a FV 24mm wide.… -
Trichia persimilis.
This is one of the less-common slime moulds. Yesterday I found it in our garden for the first time. I also found the newly-emerged white stage for the first time ever. That became cream by this morning. My images yesterday were with a 100mm lens. Today’s were with my usual 50mm. The colonies were either side of a ridge on… -
