Re: Not happy with resized Image Quality, what can we do?
I contemplated the "pay for extra quality" too, actually. For the most part I'm fine with smugmug's compression quality, but I have a handful of photos that due to their nature just artifact like crazy. It would be nice to just have an "edit photo" button that would refresh the thumbnail with some sort of "delicate image"… -
Re: Time To Move Up
Harry has it right.... But there are a couple of thoughts I will throw out for you so you dont completely lose hope. 1) It depends on what you shoot and when... Sports, wildlife you need the fastest (read expensive) glass you can afford, the fastest camera and the longest lenses. All big bucks. If you cant afford that… -
Re: Equipment business question...
Well, I've thought about that a bit and in a draft form came up with a couple ideas. I shoot the shot and provide the print for "X" dollars, you use your camera and it's "Y" dollars (somewhat less). The only way they're going to get close to or, in the cockpit, is paying either X or Y first just to get to the boarding… -
Re: Best stabilizer for hand-held shooting?
New toys & Vegas, very nice.<img src="https://us.v-cdn.net/6029383/emoji/friday.gif" border="0" alt="" > Here is a link to few clips of me running along the river trails with the glidecam & 5D. Not entirely happy with the way they look under compression, best viewed in 1920x1200. Raw files direct from camera look better on… -
Re: Just some nice news from australia
Great news. A brief outline of a mine. Solid rock. With a small band of gold hidden in two to maybe ten cm's of valued 'stuff' gold ore that looks like black pebbles. With a roof a max of 1.2m above your head at an angle of 45 degrees in +30c at 90+% humidity. This is the 'face'. Coal is often a huge 'face' rather than a… -
Re: Photographing paintings?
I did copy work for a lab I once worked in. The idea is to get the light as even as possible across the painting, because you need to show each one as close to original color, contrast and shade as possible. If you can get another light and some umbrellas or soft boxes, following the directions below will give you great… -
Re: UT vs. LSU Soccer
some advice Nice first try. You didn't say whether you've shot any other sports before, so I don't know what your sports shooting experience is. As you already noted, it's difficult to shoot a sport when you don't understand it. In general, the best sports shots will show peak action or peak emotion. As a sports shooter… -
Re: what does F1.8 or 1.4 give me?
In whole stops: (you do the math for 1/3rd and 1/2 stops!) Bold indicates breaks in the mathmatical patterns. Apertures (f-stops) 1 1.4 2 2.8 4 5.6 8 11 16 22 32 45 64 Shutter speeds 1sec 1/2 1/4 1/8 1/15 1/30 1/60 1/125 1/250 1/500 1/1000 1/2000 1/4000 Each step up/down is a "stop", and is simply a measurement of light.… -
Re: Would like to see a smugmug policy change
This is a real interesting thread. I've looked through the site and I can't see anything that would be illegal. I don't think that Youth Talent should be prevented from displaying his wares. The question for me is if Smugmug is the approprate place for this display. I looked at the shots and was turned off by what I saw.… -
Re: Strobist Question
I numbered the items to make answering a bit easier for me...here goes>>>>> 6 & 7- STE2 or RF triggers........I am not a canon shooter so whether or not a STE 2 is good I do not know....I do not trust anythning that is IR controlled...I shoot with Inexpensive 16 Channel ebay triggers like these .....…
