Re: Trying to understand the math of scanning
In addition to there being no direct correlation between digital and film, there is no direct correlation between quality and file size. When someone says "You need a 20MB file" that really does not tell you anything. You can scan an image and have it come out 10 different file sizes depending on which buttons you push.… -

I also will attch the e-mail that I sent along with the response. ( I thought it was a vague response to a potential customer ) just my .02 Thanks, Lee Hi, I have been… -

Re: Adjusting skin tones in Lightroom?
From "The Adobe Photoshop Lightroom Book by Martin Evening", Page 149: Both the Vibrance and Saturation sliders can be use to boost the saturation in an image. The difference between the two is that the Saturation slider applies a linear adjustment to the colour saturation, whereas a Vibration adjustment uses a nonlinear… -
Re: "insane" "new" Pro service coming?
Is there anything we can learn about the new service, besides that it is coming sometime in the future? It's been about two months since David Jay started mentioning it; a teaser web site went up with an "update me" function that has yet to send an update; and a reassurance that I'll love it. I am waiting, patiently and… -
Re: Get a Sneak Peek at SmugMug's new design!
I think it is a design error as the thumb under the arrow is the first thumb displayed on next page and therefore this thumbnail is repeted on this and next page. For page 2 and following both the first thumb and the last points to thumbs on another page. So the result is that 2 thumbnailholders is pointing to thumbnails… -
Re: Weddings in RAW
I am not a wedding photographer, but what you just asked cuts right to the heart of your original question too. Photoshop is such a slow workflow when trying to apply the same settings to multiple images (even with actions), it's no wonder you fear bulk raw editing out of instinct. But if you were working in Lightroom,… -
Re: More dynamic Range for 7D - iphone is blowing my mind.
What most people are talking about when they're talking about HDR is really tone mapping. In all likelihood, the iPhone app is simply tone mapping a single image to bring out the mid-tone contrast. This produces some very nice effects. In some ways this is apples and oranges. Your girlfriend is taking a picture and then… -
Re: Calibration Picture
Just an FYI on my Color Management adventures. For years I used Adobe gamma but I had a hard time calibrating my Dell 5100 Laptop. Also, the colors on my home LCD just didn't feel right. I took an adventurous $149 leap towards a ColorVision Spyder and the results weren't that great. It had no way of adjusting gamma so my… -
Re: Release *MY* Customer Info! Vote NOW!
I don't do a lot of business on Smugmug yet because I'm still researching how I want to run my business and how I want to use Smugmug to facilitate it. Facilitate being the keyword. My thinking is that my customers already think they are giving me this information because it is "my" website and they are purchasing from me.…
