Re: convice me to keep the Nikkor 50mm F1.8D
MF rules! Hey guys! It's been a while but I thought I'm gonna add something to it now. I have now (sort of) learnt how to effectively use MF with my 50mm 5/1.8D and given the choice I've started using MF all the time, even with my kit 18-55 VR, unless I really need a super fast focus! It's just amazing how much more you… -
Re: In color management hell!! Please help.
Just recalibrated and its still a mixed bag. I set my monitor to Bri 15 Con 66. Luminance is 97.3. I now use a 40-Watt lamp in my room to the far, far right of my LCD. After calibration the color accuracy has gotten much, much better. I'd almost say its 95% of what it looks like on screen. Shadow definition has improved,… -
Re: First brainwave on #14
Actually, that's ultimately what wound up causing me to take so many shots: framing without being able to crop. Sure I used a lot of shots to work out the lighting and the wb issues since I was learning as I go (I know now 1. how to set a manual WB and 2. how to use a cardboard tabletop lightbox!) but it was the "simple"… -
Re: Mayan Ruins in Mexico
After Chicken Pizza, we decided it was still early and we were not too tired so we ventured out to Tulum to see the ruins there. From Chicken Pizza to Tulum is was about 140km. Again, another pretty easy drive. The Ruins in Tulum were much smaller but not any less breathtaking. They're set right on a bluff overlooking the… -
Re: Weekly Assignment #69: Midterm Challenge
"Pearls of wisdom", I guess? ;-) Yes, size is totally fine. BW treatment could have been a bit less bland, but it's fine too, make the whole picture looks less snapshotty.. Now, the jewelry has always been a very hard subject to photograph properly, especially doing for the first time and not having the proper lighting set… -
Re: Field Sports: sell 100-400L to fund 300/2.8IS?
I concur, stick with your particular camera vendor, although I have heard a lot of good feedback on the Sigma 150-300, but not enough to make me buy one. As far as two body setups, 400mm 2.8 and a good monopod + a 70-200 2.8 (is or non) If you are fortunate enough for a third body, 16-35 or 24-70. It also does not hurt to… -
Re: Apple cinema 23" display?
How old is it and what is the price? The 23" Apple Cinema displays has always used a S-IPS type panel. This panel dates back far enough that compared to modern LCD monitors it will lack in certain areas, notably the blacks. The older S-IPS LCD panels were only capable of a bottom end black point somewhere around 0.40… -
Re: Computer gurus & PS Wizzards
I just read this info and all looks good?? I have 16GB of Ram, dedicated scratch disk (Note efficiency stays at 100%). I ran an online speed test and with a 5D II psd file running the test on a 16 bit file took close to 2 minutes 44 seconds. The CPU was running between 95% and 97%. Efficiency stayed at 100%. When running… -
Re: Foldio 2 vs Litebox Vs Elviros light boxes
To explain further, these cheap LED strings do not have good color purity because they lack a continuous spectrum. Some colors will appear horrible in the camera. My first recommendation is to use compact electronic flash to illuminate the subject. Most modern electronic flash "do" have a continuous color spectrum and will… -
Re: New Baby on the way... and I gots a lot of Questions!
Congratulations! My wife informed me about a week ago that we, too, are expecting. How far along are you two? In answer to your question, and given your current lenses, I will offer my subjective suggestions. For a prime, I'd consider a 50mm 1.4. Great lens, good portrait length, fast, and relatively affordable. I love…
