Re: Apertures for Landscapes
Something else to keep in mind is where your lens is strongest at; if you can get adequate DOF at f/8, and the lens is best at f/8, and is falling off at f/11, there's no point is using anything higher than f/8 (for example). I use the MTF values for my lenses from here: http://www.photozone.de/Reviews/overview Pick your… -
Re: Next lens dilemma
Cab.in.boston, welcome to the Digital Grin. I'm glad you elaborated in your post because it gives us a better idea of your wishes. Unfortunately, there is no clear right or wrong answer to your question. If you are after the absolute best quality, either for yourself in making large prints, or for others in terms of… -
Re: Low-cost alternative to Lightroom?
It's really important to know what Operating System and RAM, processor (CPU), graphics card/processor (GPU), and familiarity with photo software. My situation is multiple computers, Windows (Win 7) and Linux (Mint, Cinnamon), 12-16GB RAM and i5 and i7 CPU (mostly second gen). (Nothing terribly special.) For budget Windows… -
Re: URGENT call for photos
Okay, an update: The conference starts tonight and it's called D. It's Walt Mossberg's conference on all things digital. He's a noted Wall Street Journal columnist on technology. It's the third year for the conference and Kodak/Ofoto was the official photo sharing site in the two previous years. They asked if we could do… -
Re: Colour background menu for mobile with sub menus
Since I don't have a mobile, I resize my monitor. I didn't re-size it enough and didn't see the second navigation. Anyway, remove the code for your desktop mobile and use this code, but add this to your theme's custom CSS section. This code will work on both desktop and your second menu. This worked using one of the web… -
Re: Opening Lightboox occasionally slow - something is broken
Yes and no. I was about to write that it was every gallery the first time, but it is not. Before I posted this I must have tried half a dozen without one working correctly. Since you write it, two worked right, and one was really slow. https://www.captivephotons.com/Events/Rodeo/Barrels053016/ But... it was only slow for… -

Re: New studio... small budget... help
Do you won it or will you be renting the space? If you own then a 10-12 foot long wall painted black or med. dark grey (thunder grey) to the floor and across the floor for at least 10 feet would be a very inexpensive and creative backdrop......add 1 or 2 of these gel holders for coloring the background and you can have an… -
Re: EF-S here to stay ?
Interesting topic and one that I've pondered before, primarily just before I plonked down big bucks on a 10-22 EF-S. My take is that they are here to stay. As was previously mentioned, lenses take a lot of money to design and produce. If Canon wasn't committed to the APS-C sensor form factor, they wouldn't invest in the… -
Re: Photo Storage device
I have 36GB of CF cards I have 36GB of CF cards that, when shooting RAW ,which is my usual practice, can give me in the area of 2,700 images. I have never shot 2,700 images in a single session or during a single day. That would mean shooting 337 images an hour or 5 images each minute (one shot every 12 seconds) for an…
