Re: Andy's Un-Official Unsolicited Mac Advice Thread
I said with a single drive, because few 7200 RPM mechanisms can push more than 50-60 MB/sec sustained. A drive that can push 60 MB/sec will perform identically on an 80 MB/sec bus as it will on a 150 MB/sec bus (or a 300 MB/sec bus if eSATA supports that now). A 1967 VW Bus will go the same speed on I-5 as it will on the… -

AMEN. I neglected to opt for it when I bought my mother her iBook, I'm now kicking myself for that. Note to anyone out there that might be regretting it, you can buy the extended applecare at any time during the normal full coverage waranty, ususally 30, 60, or 90 days, depending on the product. But after that.... too bad,… -

I still have a windows machine at home (2 actually) so it wouldn't be of much benefit to me to switch from CS2/Win to Mac. I'll need both. Actually I'll probably dump CS2 on the win machines entirely after Vista and Expression family come out (I know people who work at microsoft so Vista will be probably $40 for me and… -

For those who are interested I am going to replace my hard drive in my Macbook. It came with the 60 GB drive, which is a Fujitsu MHV2060BH (as best as I can tell, that is the model # on the drive, but don't take my word for it since I am not a computer expert). I found a 120 GB same make for $166 vs $250 from Apple. It was… -

Forget the mini. - Laptop-sized hard drive, small and slow for a desktop computer. - Limited RAM expandability, only 2GB. - No second monitor port, no slot for a second video card and port. - By the time you spec it right and add monitor and keyboard, you've almost paid for a MacBook, which has dual monitor capability,… -

Now that you have two macs, have you looked at getting a dot mac account? It has a few cool features, one is that you can sync all you Safari bookmarks between your computers (along with syncing some other items). It will keep your mac address book, ical, online and your bookmarks too, so if you get to a computer, but… -
Re: Andy's Un-Official Unsolicited Mac Advice Thread
They get pretty warm even without something blocking the vent. When I pushed mine particularly hard with Aperture I saw the processor hit 87F (that's 188F). That's way hot. But most of the time it hovers in the mid to high 60s, warm but not ridiculous, and it's rare it breaks 80C even running Photoshop under Rosetta. Even…
