Re: Mission Possible - San Juan Bautista
Thank you Mark! Much appreciate it! Jo you are kind! I can't be more humbled and overjoyed! I keep using everyone's work and input and keep trying to improve every time. Lens is Canon's 16-35mm 'L'. I get most if not all of my gear from used market from Amazon. I look for condition, seller history to see if they have at… -
Re: Smugmug to Prime Photos
If you are looking at Amazon Drive as a general backup solution (which includes photos), it is not really ready for prime time as it has no sync features. For many (most?) photographers, while photos may be 95% or 99% of their storage needs, the rest is very important - accounting, directories, catalogs, financials,… -
Re: Decent Lighting / Low Cost for Intimate Model Shoot
Daylight balanced compact fluorescent are OK now for objects that don't require tight color balance, but I don't think they are quite ready for most portraiture or other applications which require more subtle and accurate tonality. The reason is that inexpensive daylight balanced compact fluorescent phosphors are still not… -
Re: Nephews
okay the 18-55 is going to be a better lens in terms of IQ over the 18-200mm. Stick with that for family stuff. That will immediately make things better. (Sell the 55-200 if you can find a buyer) The 18-55 is a fairly decent lens. The D5000 I believe has the same sensor as the D90 so it is fine to iso 1600. From your… -
Re: 1920*1200 monitor as introductory model
Hi Newsy, first I have to say thanks because you really know this stuff and you feel free to share this knowledge. I am coming from a computer science background and in the past it was butter and bread to read about technical reviews and decide. My current realiy is trying to finalize my PhD (in a german university)… -
Re: First Ice Hockey Attempt
You have some very nice compositions in these shots, which is much more difficult than getting the right settings on the camera. As others have said, 1/400 is waaaay too slow! When I shoot hockey (OK, it's at the NHL level and the lighting is much better) I shoot at 1/2000, wide open and ISO 2500. Extrapolating from your… -

Netbook Review: Lenovo S10e (hackintosh'ed)
So I am now the proud owner of a Lenovo S10e and thought I would share my thoughts on this netbook as it seems to be a great carry-with-you photo storage and more... For starters, I purchased a refurb Lenovo S10e from the Lenovo Outlet for about $300. The netbook offers incredibly easy access to ram and hard drive (2… -
Blogging On Smugmug Questions
I'll start off by saying that I am very sorry if I have failed to catch this information somewhere else but I can't seem to find a clean cut, clear answer by searching on here. I have tried several times to do so. I love my Smugmug but I need some help. :dunno I registered my domain name with GoDaddy:… -
FS: A Few Nikon Items, SB-600
*NEW ITEM ADDED* Nikon SB-600 - Barely used. I bought it about a year and a half ago and then bought a SB-900 shortly after. With the recent purchase of some Alienbee items this one is just going to get pushed farther and farther back in the pile. No scratches/marks/cracks. In perfect working order. I am also including the…
