Re: Olympus E500....
As for the cameras: I think the Canon 350XT has a slight advantage when it comes to resolution, and for sure when it comes to high ISO images. For every day usage the E500 to my eyes renders more pleasing images, since I really like the out of camera images it produces. That is highly subjective, and you should really make… -
Re: Does Smugmug consider this security issue a bug?
Just my .00005 cents worth here as i was reading this and I figure that between 90 & 97% of the people using SmugMug know a lot more about building and configuring a website than I do...hence one reason I have not done any actual site customizing yet..... Okay I want to password protect a gallery....as I am reading down… -

Re: Help re making the move from PC to Apple
Yeah, but this one virus was a doozie! Please see my response to another dGrinner at #16 below, very careful what we invite in, just happened. And there have been other headaches over the years, I guess could happen with Apple also, just seems excessive. BTW, I can say first-hand that Dell service at XPS level is first… -
Re: Upcoming Lightbox Changes
I've been using the Stylish plug-in in Firefox to explore customized CSS for Lightbox Version 2. I've not worked with other browsers yet. I have mostly positive things to report. Warning: a somewhat nerdy report follows. I had no trouble working my way around the CSS and making the mods to move to the sort of layout I… -
Re: White Points and Black Points...
Thanks Pathfinder, yes, any shot of importance would get the Photoshop curves treatment, white balance only goes so far and is for a single global light source. Critical areas of the image will still likely need to be massaged with global channel curves and or more selective means. We are in basic/general agreement… -
Re: Carrying more equipment without looking like a tool
There is definitely a fine balance between finding ways to carry more gear, and simply shedding the weight altogether. If I had to shoot a wedding with just two spyder holster'd cameras and nothing else on my person, (aside from a coupe batteries in one pocket and all my memory cards in the other) ...here is what I'd do: *… -
Re: Help!!!!
Jess, I have shot my share of weddings and I have got to say I have some concerns for your prospects for a stunning success... Please read my thoughts on photographing a wedding (link in my siggy). There's lots of decent/good information there and some lessons I learned the hard way. As for flash during the wedding - My… -
Re: Landscape Glass
Personally I recommend the Sigma EX 77mm polarizer, it's super thin but keeps it's front threads for when you need to add a GND. ;-) In my honest opinion, I think the BEST kit you could want for landscapes, if you were ONLY shooting landscapes, nature / wildlife and not much else, would be this: Sigma 10-20: Yes, the Nikon… -
Re: 1st attempts at portraits
I think these are a really great start! Certainly better than my first portraits! ! Your girls are just precious. (I have two, also - 38 months and 16 months!) Let's see, I often use a sheet as a backdrop to get a nice background. One thing you can do to soften it is use a shallower depth of field. (I'm going to assume…
