Re: Tripod Review: Feisol CT-3401 + Photo Clam PC-36-NS
Update Thought I would update this thread after a few weeks with the combo. Good: Very stable during multi-shot HDRs. Picking up very nice details (even in windy conditions) that, in the past, have looked like smudges. Guess that's the point of this whole thing Bad: The rotation of the legs is a bit annoying. This mostly… -
Re: SF sunrise/sunset
I don't get out much for sunrise shooting in SF. The one time I woke up early to drive to Treasure Island for a sunrise shoot, was disappointed by the results. Too much contrast for a skyline shot (at least on that day). I wonder if Twin Peaks might be good for sunrise if you shoot towards the north and get some side… -
Re: Paris bound
Sheila i dont delete from mine until they are safe on my home computer on 2 sep hard drives (safe really cant be used in the same sentance as hard drives). Re: Dispelling some myths about international shipping
DoctorIt and Gus, this conversation interests me quite a bit, maybe you can shed some light on this issues. I live in portugal. Here, everything photo related is stupidly expensive. So, obviously I'd think that buying from the U.S would be cheaper, but when I tried it, I got burned. Just so you understand the seriousness… -
Re: Rods or Cones: A discussion of B&W vs Color
A couple of quick thoughts: Despite the way the terms are thrown around on Dgrin, and the way they can overlap, photo journalism, documentary photography, and street photography are three different things. I'm not going to restart the endless discussion of that now, other than to note that the vast - vast - majority of… -
Re: Smugmug is quite slow....
I'm going to get a little technical here, but bear with me if you're curious about speed. Early on, I optimized smugmug for broadband (DSL, Cable, people's high-speed office connections, etc), assuming broadband penetration was high enough. We rapidly discovered that, while our customers use high-speed connections a lot,… -
Re: Tips for lighting a LARGE group?
I have been in your shoes! A few years ago I began volunteering to shoot plays at our local high school, and the cast picture sometimes involves around 45+ kids, just like this one (more play pictures here): My lighting is almost exactly as PLV has described. Two Alien Bees B800's on 12 foot heavy duty lightstands… -
Re: Help please? Blur issues.
The tripod will remove any motion blur associated with holding the camera steady. In order to freeze the motion of a moving subject, you need to increase the shutter speed. For a given exposure, there are multiple combinations of aperture, shutter speed, and ISO (film speed) that create a good exposure. For a given… -
