Re: Hey Andy, check it:
Ian, it depends on what processors you're looking at. A 2.66 GHz Xeon "Woodcrest" processor is substantially faster for a "market basket" of benchmarks than a 3.8 GHz Pentium 4. Intel made a marked shift from cranking up the MHz to more balanced, multi-core CPUs about 18 months ago. Since then, they have been absolutely… -
Re: new member-first post
Hi Steve "I the thing that really makes this forum unique is that it's not about cameras. It's all about the pitchas " Thats one of the reasons I like the look of this forum. In other forums there is a lot of "my camera/make is better than yours" and "you should not be in this forum because you have such and such a camera… -

Concentric My idea of concentric! Re: Muench Workshops -- African Adventure, October 2011
hi guys - thank you all for comments and thoughts. i wondered if the teleconverter is junk, but i do have some sharp shots that suggest not. one thing is that the connection is not great and i have to check that it clicks in to lock. a couple of days after the dreadful "pano every shot out of focus" , i 'noticed' this… -
Re: My Fi (2 portrait) project might be done... thumbs up or down?
Hey Neil - How've you been doing the skin work - are you using a blur layer, or ...? I actually really like her skin in the first "original" shot - it's small, so I can't tell if she has blemishes you were correcting or not, but I do like what appears to be the hint of freckles, and in your final, retouched image, those… -
Re: Canon dSLR: 7d vs. 1d2 vs.... ahh!

All the latest bells and whistles, e.g. Live View, electronic level,… -
Re: Raw Processing v. Photoshop
This is Chapter 16, What Comes Around, Goes Around.* I loved this chapter when I read it and so did the other beta readers. I got great results with flowers using the ideas from this chapter. But they can't be taken out of context. The chapter is one of a series 15,16, 17, and especially 18 dealing with representing… -
Re: Weekly Discussion Thread: The Wedding Photographer's Presence during a Ceremony
Having only been a part of two weddings, I don't have a ton to contribute, but here goes: - As the primary, I'm in usually the center with a 70-200/1.4 on one body and an 18-55 on the other, and have the 70-200 on a tripod (I don't have a very steady hand to begin with, and I shed a tear or two at most weddings -… -
Re: WB Question ??
I have a Nikon, but the Canon 50D surely provides the means to set a manual white balance. Basically, you set the camera's menu to WB, look for the setting that allows you to manually set it, point the camera at your WB card so the card fills the view, and trip the shutter. The camera should tell you that the WB setting…
