WARNING: There are several shots of the family Sciuridae that follow (can't call them by their proper name otherwise this post would probably be rejected by an automatic filter)
These are from several trips to Mt. Rainier National Park, I was there for landscapes, but brought my 100-400 along because I like lugging a 35 lb. backpack when hiking and because there's always a good chance of seeing some wildlife. I heard reports of black bears but unfortunately didn't see any, and I saw a red fox but it was too dark to photograph.
Here are the animals I did see:

The 6th shot of the deer at dawn is fabulous, as are the silhouettes. Overall a great set, thanks for sharing these.

I wish I was half the man that my dog thinks I am...
I was there a couple weeks earlier, and I saw the black bear, but only had a 200mm lens this is the best I could do:
yes...the black dot in the center of the pic :giggle not sure 400 would have been enough

Yeah, the 400 w/ a 2.0x extender on a 1.6x crop body probably wouldn't have been enough... Unless you followed the bear up the mountain. Which may or may not be a good idea (depending on the extent of your injuries vs. the quality of photos that come out).
The mountain goat photo I posted was far away too, I had a 1.4x on 400mm and still had to crop about 70% of the photo away.
I was lucky to get pretty close at Mt. Baker earlier this year with a black bear, they are incredible animals:

You've inspired me, so I'm headed to Mt Rainier this weekend with some big fast rented glass. I figure I will be lucky if I even get some good weather, but at least it will get me out of the city for a couple of days.

Now that this thread has ventured into inappropriate territory, I'm obligated to post one final wildlife photo from Mt. Rainier:
You guys made me do it. Proud of yourselves?
