Newbie here, first day trying and this?
Well, I was reading up differences between smugmug and flickr and finally after thinking it through, decide to try smugmug and was in the process of transferring my photos when this family-owned site is down and first I could not delete galeries earlier, now i cannot upload....major hassle. I am disappointed to start like this. I doubt a big corporate site like flickr gets outages. Does it happen often with smugmug? How often? Its been a long time since I remember a site to go down like this

Hi, welcome! Sorry your first day was like this! We've got an incredibly robust setup, and our track record of uptime over the years is really, really good. It's so good that regular active customers like those posting in this thread really notice any down time, no matter how short.
We have something most companies don't, and that's read only mode, where our Ops can be working on the guts of the system and we can still display photos, but not do commerce or comments, adding photos, etc.
We strive for maximum uptime and availability and safety of your photos.

I am sorry that you had this experience right at the start. I am in no way affiliated with Smugmug other than that i've been a subscriber and active member for three years, but let me assure you - I can give Smugmug nothing but rave reviews!
This is the first time I have personally experienced technical issues with the site, but even here the response time and updates were very fast and amazing. The technical support and personalized customer care is outstanding and can in no way be compared to Flickr, IMHO. The sense of community is great and please rest assured that you and your photographs will be in good hands. Don't let this unfortunate first-time experience discourage you!
On another note: All upload and log-in problems seem resolved, on my end at least !

It is sporadic here and has been so in the last 20 min, one minute it is superfast, the next minute it slows down, and keeps doing it.....it was much better last night when I was checking it out. Hopefully, it is an aberration.
Thank you... I am back up fully it seems. Edited my custom settings, uploaded, downloaded, set pricing etc. No probs.
As for the newly endoctrinated, Smugmug Tech Support is SECOND TO NONE! in this field... and if there is any trouble, ever, you know someone is fixing it while you gather yourself to come in here looking for the answer
