Agreed. I'm new here too, and although I've owned a DSLR for a couple of years, I've just started getting into using it for more then just taking pictures of the kids. Originally I wanted a camera fast enough to take pictures of my son playing baseball and soccer. Now I'm using it more and more for just taking pictures of whatever is in front of me.

So far I've spent most of my time on Dgrin reading what everyone else has to say. As I get more comfortable, I'll start putting some of my own photos up and asking for advice on my own work. I'm sure this will never be more then just a hobby for me, but right now it is a hobby I'm really excited about. One could guess from the Christmas list that I gave my wife (over half of which included something to do with photography). :D

Wolf, that was me back in August , pratcically word for word - I said something very similar in a challenge thread, a couple of people pushed me off my nice, safe, fly-on-the-wall perch and encouraged me to give it a try and... I'm HOOKED. I have had SO MUCH FUN - and learned SOOOOOO MUCH - since I stopped watching and started doing. This bunch are the most encouraging teachers I could ever imagine, and I'm just completely immersed in *really* learning how to use my camera now. I have a very long way to go, but I'm loving the journey!
So, come on in - the water's warm, I promise.... mwink.gifsmile6

Same here, just got my dSLR a few days ago though. I think I've been able to do some nice stuff with point and shoots before but now it's like a whole new world. And this place is such a wealth of information, it's amazing and so are the people.

The pure talent on this forum is just amazing. I swear to you, I was on this site 4 months before I posted a single picture. It was last week that I submitted my first entry for the DSS. It's intimidating. And the best part about it all, everyone is humble. <?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

Yeah, I'm pretty overwhelmed myself. bowdown.gif But this is the level I'd like to get to so I'm jumping in. The quality of the people and the work displayed here are the reason I signed up for SmugMug and dgrin. :D
