Oh man, Andy and I drove back semi-comatose. I had to take Monday off to recuperate I can just imagine how tough it must have been for you folks who had to travel back home to another continent Get some rest and then start posting some shots
I'm really interested in seeing some of those bird shots you got
Thanks for commenting and I had a ball shooting with ya,
Steve
Did you get to the bird joint on the way home ?
I actually had a great flight home...got to the airport really early & was 1st in line to ask for the 1st 'cattle class' isle seat behind biz class at the emergency exit & had maybe 8 or 9 feet leg room. Took some little helpers & slept for about 11 of the 13 hours to New Zealand & then got another good seat almost straight away back to 0z..only 3 & a half hours home so sat in 3 seats by myself & shot maybe 100 out of the window as the sun was rising over the clouds & wing.
Made almost a fatal error by asking the hostie if i could get my gear down & "shoot out of the window" as we were taking off & she looked shocked & asked me to repeat what i had just said !! I realised immediately & corrected myself & said "photograph out of the window" She realised i had said the wrong word & was cool with all the lenses on the spare seats.
...you really have to think about what you say on a plane these days.
It was great meeting you & all the advice you past on to me as simple as it may have been it helped me out heaps. My 400 sits perm on the 20D now & im shooting the water skiers going past my unit today....great fun.
You know who to call when you lob over here mate....i'll run you about & show you birds like youve never seen.
Enough already. Geez it was bad enough to have missed the trip but you have to keep posting these great pics. These have better be the last ones or you will have some explaining to do.

Really nice photos Steve, as were all of the pics from Yosemite.
Thanks shay
As I've maintained all along, the pics were just the icing on the cake. Getting to meet all these folks and being able to laugh, joke and shoot with them was something I'll never forget. In a group this large, you'd figure there would be some folks you just wouldn't hit it off with. Not so with this group Everyone was a hoot to be with
That's the main reason I kept at least one of my Sonys. I really enjoy IR and they do it so easily. Although, now that I've seen some of Andy's wideeeeeeeeeee modded DR pics, I'm not sure a 38mm wide angle will cut it anymore.....lol
well it is the deer and that pine I like the pine shot a lot it's very dif. if it was a butt shot i would buy it
Jeff, glad you liked them and yes I do have some deer butt shots for sale :lol As a matter of fact, Andy had left his tripod/camera in the meadow and the deer ran right past it. Here I am trying not to drop that 600mm while panning with those running deer and I see his set up in my VF as I'm snapping away. So not only do I have some nice deer butt shots, I have them with Andy's set up in the frame
These three, mate, they're great. Super job! You really did save the best to last. Next you'll turn water into wine!
Thanks Sid
I was in such a hurry to join the avalanche of Yosemite posts, I overlooked some pretty decent shots. Andy's IR post processing tutorial really helped too The more I think about it, the more I'm convinced that we were there in perfect weather. Those clouds did a lot for many of our pics If I wanted a crystal clear Tunnel View shot, I could just have picked up a postcard at the Village Store.....
:jawdropThese are gorgeous! Oh and no way am I getting sick of admiring the wonderful shots from Yosemite so don't worry. That 2nd shot is absolutely stunning!
G'day Rahmonster and thank you
Glad you aren't getting tired of all these shootout shots. One of the best memories I have from this trip is getting to spend so much time with one of your countrymen. I've always liked Austrailia and the Ozzies I've met. But meeting Gus cemented the deal. If I ever have enough $ to go on a long trip, forget Europe, or Asia (no offense intended), I'm going to visit you folks down under I can't imagine any other country, with any nicer folks
Those are wonderful...can't decide if I like 2, 3, or 5 best.
Thanks BK
I'm glad you enjoyed even one of them, let alone 3 of them
If you ever get a opportunity to shoot with any fellow Dgrinners, I suggest you jump at the chance. This shoot would have been far less enjoyable without a group of really fine folks to share the results with That obviously applies to the folks that didn't get to attend too. Man I love this place.....lol
Lovely series of images, Steve. I liked your wet pine needles also. I like those kind of location detail shots.
Shooting 600mm lenses is a new skill set in itself. DOF is Very shallow as you said. I am still learning with my 300 and 2X telextender.
Thanks PF
So how did Kathy's flower and plant shots come out? She let us chimp a few of her shots and I believe she had some very nice ones captured Of course, almost everything looks good in that 1.8" LCD......lol
You aren't kidding about that shallow DOF Next time I get to use this lens (and there will be a next time), I'll make sure I've got the camera set up better. F8 for starters and AI Servo selected too....lol

Gus,
Nah, we didn't make it too the Baylands. We got back and it was raining on and off, plus we were beat The drive seemed a lot longer on the way back.......lol We missed your stories
@ you asking to SHOOT on the plane Yep, you've really got to watch what you say nowadays If you see a friend named Jack on the plane, you definitely don't want to shout out "Hi Jack" :lol
Enough already. Geez it was bad enough to have missed the trip but you have to keep posting these great pics. These have better be the last ones or you will have some explaining to do.
Harry. You got room to talk with those darn rookery pics. You've had me drooling all over myself for days Well, drooling more than I normally do anyway....lol
We surely missed ya. We needed another crusty old fart along to keep these younguns under control. Being the only "mature" one there was a tough job:lol
Yep, last ones ( I got birds to shoot...lol) and thanks so much for your comments,

Thanks for taking the time to comment,

It was an amazing achievement to see so many people gel so well. If I can I will be there.
Love the second shot!
I am new here and I'm fairly new to more than point and click photography but.. that second shot reminds me of home (I'm from Alberta, Canada) and the Rocky mountains.

Thanks Miagraphics and welcome to Dgrin
Glad you liked the shot of that rugged terrain. There are many other Yosemite shots in this forum that I'm sure you'll enjoy as well.
We also have a few other members who live in Alberta :-) SO I'm sure you'll see some "local" shots posted here too.
Thanks for your comments and I hope you enjoy Dgrin,

While I really enjoy looking at all of them, the dew on the pine needles is a delightful surprise.
Susan
I thought it was pretty kewl too. It gave me something to do to keep warm too...lol
