Amazing Place

Hi Y'all,

I returned home from four days in Bosque del Apache NWR refuge in NM on Sunday. Since then I retired to my office, transferred the 5,000 + images from my laptop and started my processing. :twitch

Shooting at Bosque is a totally different from my normal shooting down here in Florida. I usually try to isolate my subject and try for a high shutter speed and shoot fairly wide open. Its not easy to isolate a subject at Bosque.

When I first told Linda about the trip she asked me what birds thay had at Bosque. "Sandhill cranes" I said. She went to our front door and pointed out the pair of cranes on our front yard. I told her it was different in Bosque but she didn't believe me. I hope my captures prove my point.

Shooting a Bosque was a thrill. If you haven't been there yet I would put it on top of my list of places to shoot. It is an amazing location.

How many photographers does it take to change a light bulb? 50. One to change the bulb, and forty-nine to say, "I could have done that better!"

    Sweet shots, Harry! thumb.gifthumb

Glad you had a good time. You'll be processing shots for weeks now, which will probably take you that long to thaw out as well.

It's nice to get a SIF with a backdrop that isn't sky! thumb.gif

The sandhill silhouette shot is unusual and quite pleasing.:D

These are great Harry. Looking forward to seeing more. That rainbow shot is special, and so is that silhouette!!

I still have not gotten to Wilcox to see the sandhills, but I'll be going sometime in 2008 for sure. See you in Fla soon.

Nice shots, Harry. The crane dancing on water and the silhouette shots are pretty unique thumb.gif I've nearly got my bride convinced that a winter break for some New Mexico sunshine is a good idea rolleyes1.gif

Thanks Joel, its a unique place to shoot. Amazingly, I have pretty much finished my post work already but I did put in four 12 hour days working my captures. I have so many sandhill flight shots I don't know what to do with them.

We lucked out on the weather Jeff. It only went below 20 degrees once and it warmed up fast in the AM. I never ran into Russ on this trip.

Thanks Ric, the light at Bosque makes sandhills an entirely different subject than capturing them down here in Florida.

That silhouette is one of my favorite captures form this outing.

Wonderful images as always Harry. I especially liked the silhouette ..... it really shows your artistic side. clap.gif

Now if the weather will give me break I can go down to Hiwassee (near here) and try my hand at the thousands of sandies that winter here in Tennessee. And play with my new toys. Mrs. Claus was very nice to me and gave the okay for a 1D Mark III and a 500mm f/4, of course we are in the midst of 5 days of rain! :cry

Thanks Dan, Bosque offers up an amzing number of photo ops. I was smart and left my bride home. Linda hates cold weather and mexican food. It was a tad chilly in the mornings and Socorro has 5 steakhouses and 58 Mexican restaurants.

Harry --- The mass of geese is a fantastic shot. My first inclination is to focus on the negative space (the background)--a real life M.C. Escher. Example: http://www.mcescher.com/Gallery/symmetry-bmp/E80.jpg

Regarding Linda's reaction, I remember your doing the same in a different circumstance. Several years ago, when I posted a photo of distant cranes flying through the landscape at the Salton Sea and complained how difficult it was to find them close there, you replied the same way--that they just wander around your yard in Florida....
