Call for Artists: Help us design a new logo

We're planning on taking Dgrin to the next step and giving this place an overhaul. Great changes are in the works but first and foremost we want to have our members (that means you :D) pitch in with ideas. SmugMug's got Smuggy, so what does Dgrin need? Whatever it is, keep in mind it has to work at a small size, 125x125 pixels or smaller for the banner. Think up your best, doodle your nuggets of creativity and help us wow the web with a snazzy new logo.

If we pick your design our artistic director reserves the right to modify it to suit Dgrin 2.0's new look. But you'll get a $500 gift card to B&H for your troubles. :ivar :barb

Post your submissions by sending an email to dgrinlogos@email.smugmug.com, with the subject "Logos" (without quotes.) Attach your submission in JPG format and please enter your Dgrin username in the body of the email. Need help? Better instructions for emailing photos can be found right here.

Please note that this contest is a work-for-hire with all rights transferred to Smugmug / Digital Grin and the winner must be able to submit the full-resolution file format to us. You must read and by submitting entries, you agree to the terms detailed below. Deadline is March 1st, 2009.

It's an artistic free-for-all, so show us what you got!

----
The fine print:

"I acknowledge that I am the owner and originator of the following submission.

I understand that by submitting an "entry" to this contest I relinquish any/all claims/rights/copyrights to the particular design and submitted designs become the property of the "Digital Grin" and its owners.

I have read and agree to the aforementioned policies and by submitting my artwork I agree to legal arbitration in Santa Clara County, California, as my sole recourse in the case of dispute. Clicking through indicates my acceptance to all of the above terms and conditions"

I sure do need to upgrade from my $10 tripod! rolleyes1.gif

One question... what's the deadline for submissions? headscratch.gif

lol3.gif I think we've all had that $10 tripod and they do have their uses!

Thanks for bringing up the deadline. March 1st, and I've updated the original post to reflect this info.

Can't wait to see what we get! :D

"Higher Authorities" is the official answer, but we'll let you know as things progress. :D

What a great opportunity for members to learn about 'spec' work, and dgrin to get the best from their members.

As an ad guy, in this particular situation, it wouldn't be unheard of for collaborations. Are collaborations between artists OK? I personally would think so; advancing this portal we call dgrin!iloveyou.gif

Not necessarily, as the idea of "finished" can be objective, right? :D

Oh no, I hope the email submission monster isn't raising its head again. rolleyes1.gif

The link to the gallery is right here for now. It's kind of plain so I might move it to the Dgrin account.

    Confirm?

What are the acceptable words or copy needed? dgrin, digital grin, digital grin forum, or what? :D

    When did digital grin start?

    Any "no-no" colors?

Or do we need Digital Grin Get the Shot???

Or do you want a "tagline", no tagline, or a new tagline?

Hi Dee! I don't think that we have any parameters right now. We're not gonna bias you. :D This is really open and we're hoping to get as many ideas as possible. So feel free to use whatever styles or colors that you want thumb.gif

Since we just had the 5-year party last December, I'm gonna say it started around December of 2003. Does that help?

Oh my! I have sent at at least 3 emails worth since the first day! So what do I do now? The email I sent them too is dgrinlogos@email.smugmug.com with Logos in the subject line. Thats the correct email right?

Ok...I just sent them all again. It would be nice if you let me know that you recieved them. They didn't bounce back this time or the last time either, so you might want to check your junk mail or something!ne_nau.gif

Ack! It's still not there, and it should be instantaneous. One last thing that can cause trouble is if you're sending your email in HTML format. It needs to be in plain text, so you may want to check that.

ne_nau.gif I don't know...I am sending them through my hotmail account and do not see an option of html or plain text. I have never had problems in the past so what can I do next?headscratch.gif

Ugh, sorry but it's not showing up again. rolleyes1.gif I just went a test file to the account so I know that at least it's not some tech issue on Smuggy's end. I dont know what else to suggest at this point, as the submissions for the Moab book and the Photo of the Year went OK.

Can you send me a link to the images on your site, or PM to me if you'd like and I'll just manually upload them from our end? A thousand apologies for all the frustration.!

I thought I read somewhere (at some point) that the winner also got a lifetime smugmug subscription. Am I just making that up or is it a possibility?
