Phew!!!!!!!!! Just got done submitting the last one. I did 8 different logos!!
I didn't know which look you guys are going for....fun, corporate, mix and so on. Most of the logos work when made small. Minor changes would be necessary. For example, to take drop shadows off or make something more bold.
Good night!

Thanks so much for all the great entries, guys! We've had quite a few entries and both the quality and the quantity exceeded our expectations
We need to discuss this internally now; since there are a good number of people involved for various reasons it may take a while before we've made a final decision. But don't worry, we'll let the winner know as soon as possible! (we'll have our people contact your people )

Technical difficulties or a dead issue? Would love to know the status.
Thanks for the bump, wildviper. There's so much going on around Dgrin all the time, it's hard to whack all the moles at once.
The mods have all been looking at the submissions and we were all really surprised at the variety in the gallery. It's awesome to see so much creativity and (particularly) to see the different interpretations for what Dgrin means to you. It sounds really tacky but it was the biggest reward to get this kind of insight.
The conclusion? There are a LOT of steps involved in creating the next generation of Dgrin. It's taking time, yeah, but we know it'll be worth the wait. The biggest component in this project is the designer that we will be using to revamp the site and make sure all the things are plugged in right and our cables aren't crossed. With this in mind, we haven't picked a logo from the submissions because they didn't really meet our specifications for that final image that we had in mind.
This isn't to say that there weren't great elements in these submissions. Who knows? It's possible that our designer will want to work off of one of them, and in that case we'll certainly be in touch with the person who submitted it. But we really apologize that we're not able to present a clear-cut winner at this time.
If anyone has any questions, gripes, issues, comments, anything at all please let us know either here or even via PM. Dgrin has always been and will always be an open community full of honesty and transparency, and we certainly understand if you have any feedback or concerns.

Hmmmm.....sounds like not enough information was put forth for the design to be really successful.
Stef stated some great stuff including....Hmmmm.....sounds like not enough information was put forth for the design to be really successful.
That's cool. We tried!
Hey, I tried to ask... What are the acceptable words or copy needed? dgrin, digital grin, digital grin forum, or what?
When did digital grin start?
Any "no-no" colors?
Or do we need Digital Grin Get the Shot???
Or do you want a "tagline", no tagline, or a new tagline?
The response? I don't think that we have any parameters right now. We're not gonna bias you. This is really open and we're hoping to get as many ideas as possible. So feel free to use whatever styles or colors that you want
We were not given a "design brief" which would have helped us quite a bit. Without knowing the expectations of your "client" it's difficult to design. Were they looking for folksy, casual, sophisticated, web 4.0 (the next level from current web styles), serious, lighthearted, comic, retro?
In fairness to the "client" it was probably too early to ask for designs from the community if they hadn't agreed on a design trend or look and feel from their designer.
As for a "designer" using one of our designs, I think it's highly unlikely. If they were hiring a creative director, then we might have a chance, although in my experience most creative directors will use designers and illustrators they have worked with before unless instructed otherwise by the client.
After looking at that link I was blown away by how far some logos have evolved. Your mileage may vary.
It should be very interesting to see the new design when it happens. I look forward to it. I follow a variety of people on twitter who post about design, web design and photography. Some of the new things happening with web design are fascinating, creative and invigorating. I hope we see that reflected in dgrin's new design.

No, sorry, the $500 B&H gift card is and was our carrot.

Also, are the logos up on the gallery? I don't want to repeat if an idea was already done.

For me, I saw this at the last moment and really went to work producing 8 different logos. I really wanted the $500!
My understanding was that they are pretty far in the design stages of the next look of dgrin. Apparently, that is not the case.
I certainly hope lessons were learnt here. Especially with the status updates.
