Bay Area SmugMug shooters -- Eye-Fi needs your help

For those of you who don't know who or what Eye-Fi is, please look here:

http://www.eye.fi

We need your help in testing your camera, for 30 minutes. I can't say anything more about it, because it'll mean that I've pre-announced what we're testing, but if you come to Eye-Fi and volunteer your time for 30 minutes, we'll have you sign an NDA, and you'll get to keep a present, which is what we'll be testing in your camera. We promise not to hurt your camera :-)

Basically, if you can please answer the 4 questions in this survey, we'll filter you out by which cameras you own, and will contact you to come by. We're a block away from SmugMug, in Mt. View CA, so please only answer the survey if you're close to Mt. View, so that your commute won't be long.

THANKS A LOT !!!

Ziv.

I moved this to Accessories because that's where we've put this product in the past.

    Carry on.

Why does all the good stuff (this, smug's parties) have to be 2500 miles away all the time? :cry It's as if there is nothing in Southern Maryland except cows and sheep and tobacco.

Ya, but we don't have cows, sheep or tobacco in Mt. View. Just Google, SmugMug and Eye-Fi :-) But we're working hard so that you could use our products in Maryland...

Art, how about this. If you can fill out the survey (and say that it's you in one of the fields), and I haven't already tested your camera(s), I'll send you one :-)

I filled out the survey. Let's see if my Sony alpha 100 is one of the cameras you can test :-)

I don't live in Mountain View and you didn't define how far "around" Mountain View is, but I used to work in Sunnyvale, Santa Clara and my daughter lives in Mountain View, so we're down there all the time.

    Keeping my fingers crossed!

Hi Dee (and everyone else who's reading this).

I simply suggested that only people that live around Mt. View apply, because I don't want to make you guys drive long distances. But if you are around the area and your camera is one of he ones that we haven't tested yet, we'll work around your schedules and totally appreciate the help.

    Thanks again everyone!!!

    European testing?
Do you guys/need/want any testing in Europe? I'm in the military and currently stationed in Northern Italy. I have a Canon XSi that I got a few months ago and admittedly I'm still learning to use it but I am getting better.clap.gif If you guys decided you want to use me and my locale, the test item could be sent to me via USPS Certified or Registered mail.

Hi Thesmaz -- first of all -- stay safe. Enjoy Italy. It's a beautiful place. We're currently only selling in the US, Canada and Japan, and we're not certified to sell in Europe. So for now, we'll need to hold off on our European testing, but things may change in the future.

The XSi is a great camera. We have it in the office, since it's one of the most popular consumer-level DSLR...

    Thanks --

Ziv, Thanks for the quick reply, and my offer still stands. Question though, will the EyeFi cards work overhere with the cellular networks? I've been wanting to get one of the 4GB (2GB just fills up too fast) Anny cards and then add the Geotagging to it but if it won't work then I'll find a different solution.

The Eye-Fi Cards work over wi-fi, not cell towers. If you want to use the cards anywhere that there is cell coverage, I would use something like the CradlePoint, and bridge between EVDO or 3G and wi-fi. That's what I do. Basically, everywhere I go, I'm online through the cell towers and Verizon's EVDO rev A network, which is amazing. The CradlePoint is one of my favorite toys, but it's not for everyone because Verizon's service costs $60/month with a 5GB limit. So it's for the advanced user, but if the $60/month isn't an issue -- it's an amazing solution.

That's awesome. Thanks a lot. Did you fill out the survey, to tell us which cameras you own?

SmugMug is on E Evelyn, and Eye-Fi is on W Evelyn :-) we're neighbors :-)

"Secret" testing........???? Hmmm maybe, pretty please. Alaska is a bit far but if you send me "the secret" I would be happy to test and report the results. Do you need someone to do cold weather testing!:D

I am going to fill out the survey anyway.... At least it might give you all a chuckle.
    Thanks, Matt

    Remember, I can't pre-announce anything...

Please fill out the survey. I think that cold-weather testing could be fun :-)

    Thx -- Ziv.

I'm going to try the Art Scott method here and offer my camera and any and all testing you could require! I will shoot 24/7 until my trusty Nikon D40 gives up the ghost!

I'm on the east coast, in NJ, so if you want me to test it out, let me know and I'll fill out a survey. Hopefully everyone has fancier cameras and you'll need to test my "prosumer" camera :D

PS - I attend Rutgers University so I could test it all over campus with their massive Wi-Fi network...and they have a fancy login page to make things extra challenging for testing!

    ~Nick
    Nikon D7000, D90

    Sigma 18-50 f/2.8, 70-200 f/2.8
    Nikkor 55-200mm f/4-5.6, 50mm f/1.8

    Hi Nick,

Thanks a lot for the offer. Unfortunately, the Eye-Fi Cards can't get onto networks that have a splash screen as the log-in screen. If you have the Roaming plan enabled, or if you buy the Explore card, the cards will get onto any Wayport hotspot (10000 McDonald's, some hotels, some airports), OR, any totally open hotspot (with no splash screen). So your Rutgers wi-fi network, unfortunately, won't work for us. Maybe one day :-)

Also, the D40 is the most popular DSLR in the industry. So we've already tested it :-) But I really appreciate your offer.

    Thanks again --

    Ziv.

p.s. the newest pricing on the cards is $49 for Home, $59 for Share and $99 for Explore. I can send you guys some links, but for example BestBuy.com has the best prices right now.
