Hey gang, thought to share this..get feedback....decided to put yet another marketing card together for booth/table when taking shots at an upcoming Valentines dinner. I'll have a booth set up with other materials as well. Feedback welcome.

    Text? Pain Statement?
I like the layout. I love your images. There is no mistaking what your are conveying...you are a photographer.

But I am not sure what the costumed person is representing as a genre of photography. And while the upper left photo is technically good, I bet you have better. There is no statement really as to why they should use you instead of the kid with a camera. Do you have any slogan? Is there a type of portraiture that you want to say is specific to you?

This looks like an over sized business card.

All that said, I am designing one for myself with a specific target market of women who want boudior and maternity work. It's not easy as it sounds to do. I have one that I did that reflects my branding when I opened the studio and I think after living with it a while, I didn't make it simple enough.

    I like it.....having worked in the theater business, I would think that the Fairy (costumed girl) says you will work with entertainers and I just might contact you for shots of my performances.........or you have some cool costuming for clients to wear :-}}
Over all I think it presents you very well.

Thanks Kathy for your candid comments. Yes, it's supposed to be an oversized business card, that's the intent. One sided, something tangible that is not easily misplaced.

The fairy was included to demonstrate my versatility in subjects/genre...at least was my thinking. The image in the upper left hand corner was included as one of many baby shots, albeit I could find another just as easily. I actually like the shot but if it doesn't grab you then....taking note for sure!

The slogan is "Artistic wedding and portrait photograpy". Was hoping by the image examples that would shine through...at least that's the concept. Again, this will go along with printed instruction sheets at the time of the shoot. It is not used for a "competitive" card amongst other competition vying for business.

    Thanks again!

Thanks Art...that was my intent in including her. If I were to go after a specific market then naturally, the materials would display those images..such as models for agencies or children photography alone.

Love your stuff, love your site, hate your font.....

Also skip the "http://www" stuff, one more thing you say wedding first then portraits but most of the photos are portaits. How big is this going to be printed?

Ah...great points. The card will be 5x7. I can change the font...are you thinking more elegant perhaps? I can ditch the http://www as well....but..do you think that all would know (which can be a big assumption) that simply "daveswartzphotography.com" is a web address? I know that may sound very stupid but there are people who don't even have a computer and go to the library to learn how to use email....just a thought.

Would it read better "Artistic portrait and wedding photography"? I wanted to at least have 1 image as some may have kids close to marraige, close to senior graduation, etc.

Obviously, it would be great to simplify the concepts to where when a prospective client looks at the card, light bulbs go off...Laughing.gif

    Thanks for the suggestions.

Maybe with the images somewehre you can tag them --weddings.babies...theatrical....to give definition. Dave, you are very talented. The card needs to show how much so.

And yes, that font is out of style and over used - at least here in Los Angeles.

I like everything about this card except the fonts. As a general rule in advertising design, never have more than 2 font styles. Your signature/logo is one style which limits you on the rest of the text.

My opinion/advice is to go with the font you used on your web address for all the text (minus the logo of course), and remove the http:// but leave the www and capitalize each word in your site so it is easier to "see" and remember.

Great suggestion! Okie dokey....will revise and update. Kathy....great ideas...I'm trying to figure out a way to display that possibly without using text in the images as it may get too busy? Heheh, maybe that's why the font is so prevelant....it was free....hahahaaha. Thanks for the kind words..now the pressure is on...geez.

Pick a simple font. Don't worry about the web address(anybody that you want to know will know)

As far as your slogan that's a big deal so I wont comment on that, Im sure you've thought that out and know what works for you(I dont like the word artistic though). What makes you more money(or what do you like to do better)

One picture missing from your selection of photos is a family...

Well, there must be a trillion ways you can design a marketing card. Most of them would be right for somebody.

I am a little puzzled that your layout = no-nonsense, and your choice of photos also = no-nonsense, four-square almost, but your blurb says "artistic" headscratch.gif Creates a little frisson (I'm sure you'll excuse the Francaise 'cause you used it yourself just yesterday!:D).

The photos show a great range (but maybe too many kids, not enough fellas?) of high quality work. I understand that, that registers. However, that doesn't = artistic, to my mind. Stylish, vibrant photography for all occasions. That's what it looks like.

Make the font assertive. You want business. Not a font that looks like it tickles. Have your name in one place, assertive, not spread, weakened, over two.

You are brave, and admirably non-discriminatory, in including the DS child.

But I looked in vain for the Dudette? You don't do Dudettes? eek7.gif

Oh, and that nuptials in center spot is definitely not your best deal.gif

    .

This is WAY better. Swap the cowboy with your grandson. The cowboy will draw the eye to the rest of the card in the way he is looking or reverse the image so he is looking into the card - not out of it.

Yep & Yippee!! That choice of shots is spot-on. Beautiful, all of them, stylish, should I say clap.gif The nuptials is breathtaking (as nuptials should be, if they are worth doing, I'll allow a kiss in public on wedding day mwink.gif)

The balance of fonts - your siggy and the contact details - works, and doesn't weaken stuff too much.

PS I do like the crop you did of that first nuptials, it's very good like that and where it is now. Nice emotions.

Wow, what an improvement. The first version looked really nice but this one looks extremely professional and polished.

I miss the fairy girl, but there just isn't room for everything. I understand that.

I really like your reselection and replacement of photos. The wedding w/logo is very impressive and I like it a lot better than the old way you had it set up.

Swartzy, the cowboy's legs and the receding posts of the family pic below together create a trapeze/lozenge shape which connects the two pics in an unwanted and distracting way. Spoils both. Maybe you could swap the bottom left and right pics to opposite sides. Then the straight line of the top of the frame of the bride and flower girls shot would keep the bottom of the frame of the cowboy separate.

    You get meheadscratch.gifne_nau.gifhuh:Drolleyes1.gif

just a spectator, not a pro, so just take what you want and ignore the rest. I do like your most recent one the best, but I agree with Neil regarding the blond you took out. I think you could replace the girl on the bridge for the other one. Also agree with Neil about the cowboy pic leading into the other pic rather unnaturally.

It's amazing to me how this forum can challenge us to do better than we originally thought. this just proves it.

either way, this card is great. thumb.gif

Thank you qsjewl....I agree..that's what makes the forum a great place to be. As much as I like the blond shot, I think I'll leave the girl with the railing as her hair is backlit with a nice vibrant smile :D. The blond is cool and will most likely use her in another marketing publication. Thanks for the feedback.
