Mini-challenge #69 -- Lyrics

Registered Users Posts: 2,284 Major grins
This challenge is about lyrics.
I'll often hear lyrics that remind me of particular photos I've taken or have seen from others, or the state of mind I was in while taking a particular photo.
Your job is to find a photo that has some connection to a song (the connection between the song and lyrics may be literal or abstract, the only requirement is that they are connected in *your* mind in some way). Posting the relevant lyrics for context (or even including a link to a youtube video) is encouraged. If the lyrics are not in English, please provide a translation for your idiot judge (that's me). It's OK if only the song title is connected to the photo but the lyrics aren't.
Quality of lyrics and music will not be judged, only the photos. But if the photos are tied, lyrics and music may be used as a tie-breaker :lol3
Here are a few examples (these happen to all be landscapes but obviously that is NOT a requirement!).
"In a mud cloud, mica-spangled, like the sky'd been breathing on a mirror" - Emily (by Joanna Newsom). The first time I heard this song this particular phrase stuck in my head, later, I took the following photo and thought back right away to the song:
"Though I know that evening's empire has returned into the sand. Vanished from my hand, left me blindly here to stand, but still not sleeping" - Mr. Tambourine Man (Bob Dylan).
I heard this in my car one night after driving back from shooting a sunset at Ruby Beach, it both reflected the subject (evening's empire returning into sand) and myself shooting it (left me blindly here to stand, but still not sleeping).
"He says there’s something about a sunrise, waking up sleepy eyed. He says there’s something about a highway, telling him he can’t stay.
He says there’s something about a long drive, that gives him some peace of mind" -- Nothing but a Good Ride (by Lyle Lovett). Several times last summer I woke up at 2-3AM before work to drive 2+ hours to Mt. Rainier to shoot the dawn and sunrise, after which I drove 2+ hours back to work. I can't wait until summer so I can do it again! This song reminds me of those trips, on which I took this photo (and several others):
This challenge begins Sunday, January 18th, 2009 at 12:00:00 AM EST and ends Saturday, January 31st at 11:59:59 PM EST.
GENERAL RULES
1. Have fun sharing and seeing what others share!
2. The host supplies a topic and you post 1-3 images. The host judges the winners (1st, 2nd and 3rd) and is not eligible to enter.
The 1st place winner then chooses the next topic, judges the winner and passes on the baton to the new champion.
3. Any photo you’ve taken is eligible, regardless of when taken or camera used.
4. Any amount of post-processing is allowed. However, it is helpful if you list your camera and lens along with your photo.
You may comment on other contestant's images. If you want someone to leave you some critique or criticism, put an asterisk (*) next to the title of the image.
5. The winner has up to three days (72 hours) to begin a new mini-challenge, or the honor goes to the #2 finisher and so forth.
Guidelines:
1. Enter 1-3 photos and put them in a single post.
2. Either embed your image in the thread or, if you must, supply a link to it. Keep in mind, however, most people don't want to click to open photos hosted elsewhere (i.e. on your website).
3. Also try and resize your photos prior to posting so they're sized appropriately for viewing without having to scroll (~800 pixels on the longest side works best.)
4. Give each image you enter a title.
5. Enjoy discussion with members about their images, dont let this just be an entry thread!
6. Dont be hesitant, share'em and enter!

Next is War by Bruce Springsteen a.k.a. my favorite person to ever walk the face of the earth.

Friend only to the undertaker
War is the enemy of all mankind

You'll find something that's enough to keep you

#2 Chicago, Beginnings (sappy I know, what can I say)
When I kiss you, I feel a thousand different feelings.
I'm covered with chills all over my body.
And while I feel them, I quickly try to decide which one
I should try to put into words, oh no,
Try to put into words.
#3 Will have to wait til I can come up with something.:D

What can make me feel this way?

Driving that train, high on co_ _ _ _ _,
Casey jones is ready, watch your speed.
Trouble ahead, trouble behind,
And you know that notion just crossed my mind.
This old engine makes it on time,
Leaves central station bout a quarter to nine,
Hits river junction at seventeen to,
At a quarter to ten you know its travlin again.
Driving that train, high on co_ _ _ _ _,,
Casey jones is ready, watch your speed.
Trouble ahead, trouble behind,
And you know that notion just crossed my mind.
Trouble ahead, lady in red,
Take my advice youd be better off dead.
Switchmans sleeping, train hundred and two is
On the wrong track and headed for you.
Driving that train, high on co_ _ _ _ _,,
Casey jones is ready, watch your speed.
Trouble ahead, trouble behind,
And you know that notion just crossed my mind.
Trouble with you is the trouble with me,
Got two good eyes but you still dont see.
Come round the bend, you know its the end,
The fireman screams and the engine just gleams...
Excerpt from Waiting On a Friend — The Rolling Stones
A smile relieves a heart that grieves
Remember what I said
I'm not waiting on a lady
I'm just waiting on a friend
Sitting On The Dock Of The Bay — Otis Redding
Sittin' in the mornin' sun
I'll be sittin' when the evenin' come
Watching the ships roll in
And then I watch 'em roll away again, yeah
I'm sittin' on the dock of the bay
Watching the tide roll away
Ooo, I'm just sittin' on the dock of the bay
Wastin' time
I left my home in Georgia
Headed for the 'Frisco bay
'Cause I've had nothing to live for
And look like nothin's gonna come my way
So I'm just gonna sit on the dock of the bay
Watching the tide roll away
Ooo, I'm sittin' on the dock of the bay
Wastin' time
Look like nothing's gonna change
Everything still remains the same
I can't do what ten people tell me to do
So I guess I'll remain the same, yes
Sittin' here resting my bones
And this loneliness won't leave me alone
It's two thousand miles I roamed
Just to make this dock my home
Now, I'm just gonna sit at the dock of the bay
Watching the tide roll away
Oooo-wee, sittin' on the dock of the bay
Wastin' time
This is a fun theme. Can't wait to see what everyone comes up with.

P.S. Thought about it and decided to do some selective editing just in case little ones see this thread.

Slow it down! And would at least one person post some awful photos so it won't make the decision process so difficult?
Photo Gallery | Blog | I'm Unemployed!
this request should be no problem for me... i will get right on it:D , in a day or two that is...
The sky is gray and white and cloudy,
Sometimes I think it's hanging down on me.
And it's a hitchhike a hundred miles.
I'm a rag-a-muffin child.
Pointed finger-painted smile.
I left my shadow waiting down the road for me a while.
Cloudy
My thoughts are scattered and they're cloudy,
They have no borders, no boundaries.
They echo and they swell
From Tolstoy to Tinker Bell.
Down from Berkeley to Carmel.
Got some pictures in my pocket and a lot of time to kill.
Hey sunshine
I haven't seen you in a long time.
Why don't you show your face and bend my mind?
These clouds stick to the sky
Like floating questions, why?
And they linger there to die.
They don't know where they are going, and, my friend, neither do I.
Cloudy,
Cloudy.

I was sure by now
That You would have reached down
And wiped our tears away
Stepped in and saved the day
But once again, I say "Amen", and it's still raining
As the thunder rolls
I barely hear You whisper through the rain
"I'm with you"
And as Your mercy falls
I raise my hands and praise the God who gives
And takes away
Chorus:
I'll praise You in this storm
And I will lift my hands
For You are who You are
No matter where I am
Every tear I've cried
You hold in Your hand
You never left my side
And though my heart is torn
I will praise You in this storm
I remember when
I stumbled in the wind
You heard my cry
You raised me up again
My strength is almost gone
How can I carry on
If I can't find You
I lift my eyes unto the hills
Where does my help come from?
My help comes from the Lord
The maker of heaven and earth

Aruba, Jamaica ooo I wanna take ya
To Bermuda, Bahama come on pretty mama
Key Largo, Montego baby why don't we go
Jamaica
off the Florida Keys
There's a place called Kokomo
That's where you wanna go to get away from it all
Bodies in the sand
Tropical drink melting in your hand
We'll be falling in love
To the rhythm of a steel drum band
Down in Kokomo
Aruba, Jamaica ooo I wanna take ya
To Bermuda, Bahama come on pretty mama
Key Largo, Montego baby why don't we go
Ooo I wanna take you down to Kokomo
We'll get there fast
And then we'll take it slow
That's where we wanna go
Way down to Kokomo
To Martinique, that Monserrat mystique
We'll put out to sea
And we'll perfect our chemistry
By and by we'll defy a little bit of gravity
Afternoon delight
cocktails and moonlit nights
That dreamy look in your eye
Give me a tropical contact high
Way down in Kokomo
Aruba, Jamaica ooo I wanna take ya
To Bermuda, Bahama come on pretty mama
Key Largo, Montego baby why don't we go
Ooo I wanna take you down to Kokomo
We'll get there fast
And then we'll take it slow
That's where we wanna go
Way down to Kokomo
Port Au Prince I wanna catch a glimpse
Everybody knows
A little place like Kokomo
Now if you wanna go
And get away from it all
Go down to Kokomo
Aruba, Jamaica ooo I wanna take ya
To Bermuda, Bahama come on pretty mama
Key Largo, Montego baby why don't we go
Ooo i want to take you down to Kokomo
We'll get there fast
And then we'll take it slow
That's where we wanna go
Way down to Kokomo
Aruba, Jamaica ooo I wanna take ya
To Bermuda, Bahama come on pretty mama
Key Largo, Montego baby why don't we go
ooo I want to take you down to Kokomo

Here's mine:
Here comes the sun,
here comes the sun,
and I say - it's allright.
Little darling, it's been a long, cold, lonely winter.
Little darling, it feels like years since it's been here.
Here comes the sun,
here comes the sun,
and I say - it's allright.

Yeah, 18 days was a nice little first test. 6 months is a practical maximum, because the sun starts re-tracing the same lines.

Did you check out the solargraphy link? There are a number of photos posted there by your fellow countrymen.
I would love to try something like that! The camera looks simple enough -- it's the development work I'm leary of.

What development work? You take the paper out of the can, scan it (or take a picture of it) as it is, and then it's simple post stuff.
I have that picture posted here, we can discuss it there without taking over this thread completely.

At last my love has come along
My lonely days are over
And life is like a song
Ohh yeah yeah
At last
the skies above are blue
My heart was wrapped up in clover
The night I looked at you
I found a dream, that I could speak to
A dream that I can call my own
I found a thrill to press my cheek to
A thrill that I have never known
Ohh yeah yeah…
You smile, you smile
oh And then the spell was cast
And here we are in heaven
for you are mine....

"Sympathy For The Devil"
Please allow me to introduce myself
I'm a man of wealth and taste
I've been around for a long, long year
Stole many a man's soul and faith
And I was 'round when Jesus Christ
Had his moment of doubt and pain
Made damn sure that Pilate
Washed his hands and sealed his fate
Pleased to meet you
Hope you guess my name
But what's puzzling you
Is the nature of my game
I stuck around St. Petersberg
When I saw it was a time for a change
Killed the Czar and his ministers
Anastasia screamed in vain
I rode a tank
Held a general's rank
When the Blitzkrieg raged
And the bodies stank
Pleased to meet you
Hope you guess my name, oh yeah
What's puzzling you
Is the nature of my game, oh yeah
I watched with glee
While your kings and queens
Fought for ten decades
For the Gods they made
I shouted out
"Who killed the Kennedys?"
When after all
It was you and me
Let me please introduce myself
I'm a man of wealth and taste
And I laid traps for troubadors
Who get killed before they reached Bombay
Pleased to meet you
Hope you guessed my name, oh yeah
But what's puzzling you
Is the nature of my game, oh yeah, get down, baby
Pleased to meet you
Hope you guessed my name, oh yeah
But what's confusing you
Is just the nature of my game
Just as every cop is a criminal
And all the sinners saints
As heads is tails
Just call me Lucifer
'Cause I'm in need of some restraint
So if you meet me
Have some courtesy
Have some sympathy, and some taste
Use all your well-learned politesse
Or I'll lay your soul to waste, um yeah
Pleased to meet you
Hope you guessed my name, um yeah
But what's puzzling you
Is the nature of my game, um baby, get down
Woo, who
Oh yeah, get on down
Oh yeah
Oh yeah!
Tell me baby, what's my name
Tell me honey, baby guess my name
Tell me baby, what's my name
I tell you one time, you're to blame
Ooo, who
Ooo, who
Ooo, who
Ooo, who, who
Ooo, who, who
Ooo, who, who
Ooo, who, who
Oh, yeah
What's my name
Tell me, baby, what's my name
Tell me, sweetie, what's my name
Thanks for looking,
