Neither her nor my family showed for the wedding. So it was small. Just a tight group of friends, ranging in age from 18 (me and my best man) up to about 65. I handed an old Canon rangefinder camera to a friend of the best man and asked him if he knew how to use it. Well, that turned out to be a major mistake. He throught it was a manual SLR, throught the focusing control was the aperture or some such. Anyway, we got NADA. But we have each other!barb :ivar (she still hasn't figured out just how huge a mistake she made in marrying me).
I'm loving seeing the photos you all have been sharing!
Outch, Scott ... That's a sad story (with a happy end ). I shot a couple of weddings where one of the parents didn't show up and think it's the saddest thing!! Glad it all worked out for you (eventhough you didn't end up with any photos) & hope your parents got over it :cry

Sad - maybe. I like where I'm at and the decision I made all those years ago (I know who got the better deal in my mariage!).
I've loved following this thread! What a great idea and so much fun to read about and see these photos! Maybe I'll get a couple scanned in later today.

I had to change my web host as I had some troubles with my blog, so you most likely won't see them until Sunday. They said the DNS change will take up to 72 hours.
Wow Fred.....18???? Did you say 18????? When our daughter at 19 wanted to get married.....um....I was a bit unglued........she still remembers the major talks till 3:00 AM
These are great..thanks for sharing!
My dad was rather the same way... but his major issue was my DH is 7 years older than me... Thinking about it now (11 years and 3 kids later) I can totally understand his angst! Yeah, I am so excited about going through what our parents did when OUR kids get that age. And with such cute daughters like I have.....What FUN.rofl
Ok, Im gonna give it a go..It's not my absolute favorite but it makes me laugh every time. It was taken by a friend, not in focus but I don't care. I'll have to get the good pictures onto the computer. ENJOY!!
To Shima: LOVE #1 and #3... And I am jealous of your photos! I have often wished I could shoot my own wedding, (How that would work, I don't know..!) but I would have been totally happy with photos like yours. Your hair was so beautiful!
Thanks! I really love your first one. I was banned from holding a camera on my wedding day, one of my bridesmaid took my camera and wouldn't let me have it until we were leaving for the reception. Granted I was still only using a Canon Powershot Pro1 back then, I got the first DSLR a few months later (we were marred in June 2006, got my first DSLR that November).
I always wish I had some excuse to get my hair done again like that! Granted there were like 50+ bobby pins in it... I remember getting to the hotel with my hubby and we counted as he pulled them out for me. I think we counted 58. My hair didn't even move when they were all out either, there was so much hair spray in it, lol. A nice soak in the hotel room's private jacuzzi fixed that though
Okay this took some effort to get scanned in. Our wedding pictures are pretty much a disaster as I think I already mentioned. This one was taken by my mother with her Canon EOS 35mm film camera
the print looks great, scanning it doesn't make it look all that great.
I have to say that I'm loving this thread. And I find it quite interesting how many wedding photographers there are that their own wedding pictures either don't exist or are terrible! How many times we tell people- "Go with the professional" or "Your photos will be all you have to remember the day by" and yet most of our pictures are taken "by my brother/family friend/mom/etc". Or if they were taken by a "pro" they were bad! lol Anyhow, after seeing what you guys got as wedding pictures & what you are giving out as wedding pictures (as evidenced by other threads!), I'm so glad to say that apparently things are definitely getting better!
(This is not to say that all the pics in this thread are bad or anything! I'm making reference to the fact that so many people talk about their pictures being terrible.)

You are right. Looking back on it all, I am kicking myself for not taking it more seriously for my own wedding. I scrimped on so many things because it was my 5th wedding. I did however make sure we spent a whole week in Mexico for our honeymoon. I could have easily had someone do our pictures, I just sold my house that week so there really was no shortage on funds. I put too much trust where I should not have done so and will never do that again for something so important. I can also share my story with other brides to be.

A lot of good points here. But, in my own defense I gotta say that I got married some 25 years before I ever thought about doing it myself. And I was young and didn't know any better and had no one to better advise me. Oh well, that's in the past.
I am with Scott on that one, I was not doing photography as a business when I got married, otherwise I would have already had plenty of prime connections.
I just thought of something that is along similar lines of your comment. I know a lady who almost drowned as a child. She has been teaching people of all ages how to swim for over 30 years and is passionate about teaching people how to overcome their fears of the water and learn to love it.
I'll play! We had a relatively small wedding budget (compared to the national average here), but the pictures were really important to me and so we ended up spending about 20-25% of our budget just on those! There were some issues with the photographer (it was a really really hot day and everyone was a bit grumpy for the formal pics, so a few personality clashes), but overall I'm glad we spent the money. I know some family members think we probably could have got the same results for less, simply because some of them got similar shots (or better) of different parts of the wedding. For example, my photographer didn't get any stellar shots of me coming down the aisle, but some family members got some beautiful ones. But to be fair, I'd asked her on our list of "must-haves" to get a shot of my husband's face when the doors opened and she got a fantastic one of him. And while some family members got a few great shots of very specific parts of the day, she got beautiful shots of the whole thing. I think she did a great job, especially considering the heat (hottest day of the summer that day) and the bright afternoon (not a cloud in the sky, whereas all the days before and after ended up being overcast!). She also brought a student photographer whose job it was to take some candid shots during the formal pictures, who got some great shots too.
I couldn't pick just one, hope that's okay. I shrunk them down a lot though.
And two from the student photographer. The first are my three sisters, who were all part of the bridal party. I have a copy of the picture my sisters ended up taking in this picture too (with the student photog in the background). I love that the student caught this on camera. The second is one of my sisters and my best friend, who were both my maids of honour, relaxing in the shade while the guys got their pictures taken behind us. The grass is a bit fuzzy because we were lying on a big blanket that I cloned out, but I wasn't very experienced with Photoshop and didn't do a fantastic job. I'm still not that great or I'd give it another try ha.
Please don't be afraid to critique my photos, I'm here to learn and get better.

Hard to pick just one...
but here it goes. I finally found one that I already had uploaded. I, unlike so many on here it seems, loved our photographer and booked her without even talking to her. We went with Meghan from Rodeo & Co. in New Hampshire.

This puppy was being trained to be a rescue dog for the ski resort!
