B&H/UPS lost my D300!

Anyone else have this happen before? UPS tried to deliver my new D300 and accessories from B&H when I wasn't around. No big deal of course, but since then UPS has lost the package! It hasn't been scanned for days! Theft perhaps?

Will B&H ship me a different one stat? I need to follow up tomorrow, but they are running an 'investigation' to see where it is. I even paid for expedited shipping which obviously didn't work out :huh Even if they 'find' it, I am not sure I want that one in case the box has been tossed around & abused.

Sorry had to rant, I was excited to play with my new camera!

What does the tracking info say?

Does it show it as delivered? UPS seems to be perfectly content with leaving a very expensive package at someone door.

Seems to me B&H did what they promised. Let's hope UPS measures up to their responsibility to locate and deliver or make good on the loss.

B&H will not ship another one unless UPS pays for it. B&H is not the cause of the loss, UPS is liable here. Was it shipped insured? If not, you may be S.O.L. I hope you used your credit card. Call them NOW! Tell them what happened.

Twice UPS has left a package on my front porch when in the shipping orders I asked they leave it on the BACK porch. One was a 27" Sony TV with "Sony TV" printed all over the box. Why nobody took it is still a mystery to me.headscratch.gif
The second time was just last week when I ordered a battery holder/grip for my Nikon and they left it on the front porch again. USP is NOT my choice of delivery service. They toss the packages around and are always in a hurry.

These two quotes don't add up.
UPS is not my first choice for deliveries, and if I can pay for another I will. As bad as it is blowing a day waiting for the UPS guy to show up, it is often worth it.
The last package that I lost with UPS took 3 weeks for them to "find" it.

Did you call UPS and ask them about it? Did they actually say that they lost the package?

Nope, not delivered. This was the last time the package was scanned (aka UPS knew where it was)

"THE RECEIVER WAS UNAVAILABLE TO SIGN ON THE 1ST DELIVERY ATTEMPT. A 2ND DELIVERY ATTEMPT WILL BE MADE"

After that, nothing. It was never delivered.

Yeah, certainly not B&H's fault. However it did take me two different phone calls to convince them UPS lost the package. I was a little aggravated at both the customer service reps reaction and inaction to my troubles.

Might need to do that, I am not sure it if was insured or not. I would assume a reputable company such as B&H would always back their products from the sales floor to when you get it in your hands.

Right, the package initially actually came early! I paid for 3 day to have it by the weekend, but it came on Thursday (not Friday as planned) unexpectedly when I was on a trip. From now on I am shipping important stuff like this to my wife's work.

Honestly in all my years of getting TONS of stuff shipped to me, this is my first issue with any shipper. So I can forgive them, if they are honest and work to resolve the issue professionally and make it right for me.

I am sorry about this really frustrating situation and appreciate your concern and impatience. I will ask customer service to see how this can be expedited. I understand you paid for a camera and want a camera, but we don't want to pay for two to sell one (which I think is understandable) and may have to have UPS's involvement to resolve this.

Sounds like the package requires signature. Which is a good thing. Are you in a remote location? Many locations don't have the luxury of a daily UPS truck; they may be delaying due to normal schedule or waiting for other packages going to the same area.

Try contacting UPS and confirming status. Maybe also coordinate next delivery attempt. Or, if shipping office is not too far away, you may be able to arrange pickup in person there, if truck can't make it fast enough.

Ah, I figured Andy's post referred to someone at B&H - perhaps that shows how new I am around here :D11doh.gif

Thanks for the reply Henry, I really appreciate it. As a business owner who ships goods as well, I can also appreciate where are you are coming from. Is this something you see from UPS on occasion? It seems really strange how a package can simply 'disappear' from their system. Thanks again for the reply and I hope I can start shooting with the D300 soon!

Thanks, but already did all that. It is somewhere in the ether, no one knows where though.

You know-- I've had some similar dealings with UPS so I recently started using FedEx. They're pretty similar. Left a note on my front door asking FedEx to leave my latest package at the backdoor. Not only did FedEx leave it at the front door, they propped it up against the door (it was a flat package) so it was MORE visible from the street! eek7.gif

The trick is to meet your driver and talk to them personally. But of course, if you could do that, there wouldn't be much need to have them drop off the package at the backdoor, right? rolleyes1.gif

There are other options. What I have had done is had a delivery be held at a UPS or FedEx location. I then drive by on my way home from work and pick up the item. That seems to work pretty well for me. It also helps that the UPS depot is literally across the street from my office.

It should be noted some vendors will not do this. I asked adorama to hold a d700 they were shipping me at the UPS place, and they basically accused me of trying to rip them off. How this is accomplished I dont know, but I would assume it is harder to falsify an ID than it is to hang around in someone's front yard for UPS.

Get ready to be happy. I just talked to the asst manager of customer service and he conceded we could have handled this better from the outset and he's having another camera shipped today via UPS 2-day rush.

We're sorry for this situation and hope this solution is satisfactory.

Thanks Henry! thumb.gif No worries at all and no harm done. B&H certainly retains my future business and respect.

Thanks for personally looking into this and getting it resolved, I really appreciate it. Cheers! Nick

    Wow! B&H rocks.

I knew that, of course, but it's really great to have it confirmed yet again.

Oh, and I think that Andy gets a nod too. He is one of the reasons dGrin is such a great place.
Now, I'm waiting to see pictures with the new camera. :lurk

I'm waiting to see the first camera show up. It hasn't "disappeared" just because the tracking number says you weren't available for the first delivery. It's either sitting on a UPS truck or back in the warehouse somewhere. Dollars to donuts it'll show up soon (and B&H will get it back.) Amazing for Henry to go above and beyond like this - what a stand-up company. thumb.gif

ditto with the box o' lenses from Adorama that I ordered two weeks ago. At least the local UPS place was willing to let me 'pick up' the package after the trucks came back (after 6pm, before they closed at 7pm) although they "officially" could not "hold" the package for me, since it went against Adorama's orders.

technical, but so be it. I got my lenses :D

I know it's too late, but for high cost items and maybe for express shipping, a signature is is often required. If you ship it to an empty house, that's a guarantee that it will not be delivered or that if it was left at the door, can be stolen. In which case, UPS will say left at the door and no signature was required and they may not take responsibility for the theft.

I'd recommend having either your or your wife's work address on record with the CC company and that way, you can have it delivered to the work where someone can sign for it even if it's a day early or a day later than planned.
