a couple ofthings from having worked in the shipping field for over 15yrs......
A simple note on your front door to never leave a package should suffice (and always has for me), with a "will pick up at carriers terminal office"........
Try to get to know your driver from UPS......these guys will bend over backwards usually for their clients..........
Big ticket items should always be shipped to the UPS/Fed Ex terminal office.....
I have never had a problem with UPS following my instructions....however DHL(glad are now defunct) and Fed Ex will still will leave a package just lying in plain sight even with a sign on front door and back door stating do not leave will pick up at terminal......
Insureance.......every company I know of gives that as an option and if you do not take it for a big ticket itme especially, then the loss is on you....unfortunately.......UPS has insurance upto $100 or $150 for free.....so a lost cam with no extra insurance is only going to see an insurance remittance of that amount.....of course anything could be bettertahn nothing........
I have had items slide off the radar with UPS and Fed Ex and had UPS calling me to give updates as well as email updates......yes they are in a hurry....it was just last year that they changed their routes, at least here in Kansas, so that they never make a left turn.....a study showed that they could save millions in gas expenses by doing this.....also they are given only a few seconds, not minutes to make a delivery......some take longer than others but it all works out by the end of the day.
Hopethey find the camera in good shape and all is well
Just came across this thread. It appears to be a UPS claims issue. I have ordered many items from B&H and I go through this every time I have the package sent to my house and not work. UPS is under a vary strict contract with B&H to require an adult signature on high dollar deliveries and changing the shipping address after shipping info has been entered into the system (what that dollar amount is i'm not sure). UPS in my experience will not waiver from that contract either, for any reason. Anyway, if UPS can't verify that they have a signature for that package they are liable. This is the exact reason B&H and UPS have this contract.
ditto with the box o' lenses from Adorama that I ordered two weeks ago. At least the local UPS place was willing to let me 'pick up' the package after the trucks came back (after 6pm, before they closed at 7pm) although they "officially" could not "hold" the package for me, since it went against Adorama's orders.
technical, but so be it. I got my lenses
I apologize for coming to this thread late; we were experiencing levels of frauds that were impossible for us to continue to absorb, and felt that insisting upon home delivery to the addressee might be one way of combating this. <?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /> However, should you wish to be able to collect your Adorama order from the UPS facility, you only need to inform the sales rep taking your order. alternatively, if circumstances change after placing your order, which will require you to be able to collect your goods, a quick call or email to the customer service team - or directly to me - will enable us to 'unlock' your order. My apologies for any inconvenience caused by this necessity. Sincerely Helen Oster
