Log In/Out Issue

AllenAllen Registered Users Posts: 10,011 Major grins
edited December 10, 2010 in Bug Reporting
When I log in AND log out it returns to the first page in the gallery.

This is a PITA because now I have to find the photo to edit the caption after
login and also find the edited caption amongst many many pages after logout.

I used the login and logout in the Smugmug mini-footer.

Happens with both nickname and domain.

What is the expected behavior, what did it do before? Sorry, this is never an issue for me, I login once at smugmug.com and I'm just done...

Say I'm at photo 256 in a gallery and want to edit a caption. I login and end
up on page one. Now I have to go find the photo to edit the caption, even if
I can remember what photo it was. :D

Logging in or out use to, some time ago, return to the page you where on. I
remember going thru this with Dev trying to get my own log in/out links, on
#manageBar and #hiddenMenu, working like the footer one, returning to page
    came from.

Another btw, the crop thumbnail page, moving thru photos using next arrow is also cool.

    Other log-in log-out funny stuff
I've noticed another oddity w/ log-in lately. I'll be already logged in (I rarely even need to log in 'cause I'm on often enough... just saves my log-in) and I KNOW I'm logged in because of the buttons I'm using that are only there for me-- add photos, etc. But then if I decide to go do something in my customization box, Smug decides I need to log in again, as if I'm not already. I'll go to control panel w/ no trouble. I think it's when I actually choose "advanced customization" that I have to log in or verify it. I don't think that was always the case, was it? If so, I don't remember... but that may just mean bad things are happening to my old brain :D

If you close your browser for any reason, reboot, etc., even if you are still
showing being logged in restarting your browser, any security page you visit
    will require a log in.

btw, just noticed that after logging out the next page has this message.

Take me to the page I was viewing.

I know that there are some fixes that are waiting to go out with the next release. This last release was holding up few things because of the complexity. Hopefully they will go out soon.

Maybe I missed the change but it doesn't return to the photo when logging in or out.

Today while viewing any photo in popular gallery logging in or out returns
to first photo in gallery. Yesterday it returned to #32.

Go to any photo, log in. Returns to 1st in gallery.
Go to any photo, log out. Returns to 1st in gallery.
Does this in both FF and IE8.
    Popular gallery and regular gallery.

Same thing happens on this site.

9-11-09 When I log in AND log out it returns to the first photo in the gallery.
3-19-10 Logging in or out from ANY photo in my popular gallery returns to photo #32.
3-26-10 Now logging in or out from ANY photo in my popular gallery returns to photo #20.

Logging in or out needs to return on the current photo.

Say I'm at photo 256 in a gallery and want to edit a caption. I log in and
end up on some other photo. Now I have to go find the photo to edit the
caption, even if I can remember what photo it was.

Al, from a gallery in SmugMug style, mid-gallery, I just logged in & out, with minifooter, full footer, and header login/logout links, on a regular account (not my admin account) in Firefox 3.6.12. In every case, I was brought back to the exact photo I was on.

You have my email address, please email me exact steps to repro (I will also need to use your account so change your pwd to something temporary and let me login exactly as you would). Thanks Al,

    Andy

I'm still getting logged back in at Page 1 of gallery also. Logged out at page 4, then clicked on "Take me to the page I was viewing" and got page 1 instead. I'm on FF also-- 3 point something... 3.6. something maybe. (that latest ed. I think) Sorry I can't help more until late tomorrow maybe-- am truckin' around the state the rest of weekend & gotta dash now.

Would love to help. Need exact repeatable steps. It's working as I said for me... do you have any special javascript or anything going on that could get in the way of this?

Ugh, I'm sorry - it works properly for regular nickname.smugmug.com addresses, but not when you use a custom domain.

We'll fix it properly, I'm so sorry.

    Hi Andy,

I think I have a domain name problem too.

Thought it was fixed yesterday after working with a SmugMug hero, but this morning I found that before I could even complete the log in data, I ws getting flipped back to the dGrin challenge galleries when I tried to log in (whether I used Twocitiesphotography.com or flyinggina.smugmug.com). Refresh didn'r help. Clearing cache - clearing cookies etc. didn't help.

A SmugMug/Facebook friend says that she can't get to my site.

I have just finished a portrait shoot and I can't use my SmugMug site for proofs.

Puzzled, perplexed and getting just a wee bit frustrated.

PS - I also sent an email to my SmugMug hero, but he may not work weekends.

Thanks for any help you guys can provide.

    Virgnia

Your domain is setup fine. The issue you're having is something else.

Thanks for checking out the domain. :-)

Thanks Andy, guess when tweaking things esp. caption KW's I'll use nickname for now.

    Next issue.
    Logged in using domain
    Add gallery from sub-cat page
clicking gallery link top of create gallery page (Simple) put in my nickname still shows logged in on gallery page (logout shows in footer)
open domain link in tab, gallery shows logged out
no mater how many times hitting refresh it won't switch to logged in (login shows in footer)
This used to work after one refresh if it showed logged out.

    Wholly cow!!
In "logged in" gallery nickname not domain
    click sub-cat in breadcrumb
    sub-cat page comes up
every gallery link on the sub-cat page is using/switching to the domain link
so I can not get to another gallery showing it as logged in.

Edit: If I log in using my nickname and somehow* get switched to my domain I never see a logged in page.
    * using breadcrumb back to sub-cat page every gallery link switches to domain, therefore not logged in on any of them.
