Allen, That is a very good question and I am sending this to the programmers to take a look at. I was able to replicate the behavior you describe. Thanks.

It looks like if originally logging in using domain you're still logged in when
switching pages. But if logging in using nickname you get switched to domain
somewhere along the line and have to log in again. All my internal site links
are relative so I get whatever link happens auto-magically.
btw, popular, timeline and featured gallery links on homepage also switch to domain.

I believe that everything except the homepage tries to switch to your custom domain now for SEO consistency. If you allow both custom domain and xxx.smugmug.com to be on the internet with equal presence and no redirects to the custom domain, then you get diluted search results and, even worse, people get search results that direct people to the non-custom domain site.

Every public placed link I use is the domain one and every link on my site is
relative. So why do I find both nickname and domain links in statcounter?
Ugh, I'm sorry - it works properly for regular nickname.smugmug.com addresses, but not when you use a custom domain.
We'll fix it properly, I'm so sorry.
Has anything gotten figured out with this login-logout thing? I was logged in, then just tried logging out from page 3 of a gallery, then hit "take me to the page I was viewing" and ended up back at page one of the gallery instead. (same result as a couple days ago). Again, I wish I could be more helpful, but am traveling a few states away yet again-- tomorrow. If there's any very simple info. that I can give in a couple minutes that would help, lmk. The other thing with the domains is rather strange.
That's an outright bug on Smugmug's part. You should file a bug report on that. If you have a custom domain, they should never report Smugmug search results on your nickname domain.

File a bug report? Where? You would think they would see this here.

This is by design. You guys (collectively) all asked for this

I reported that we fixed this for standard urls, but it needs to be REFIXED for custom domains. Sorry. Stay tuned.

Here's one that's a problem from statcounter.
Searching on Smugmug returns nickname link and not domain.
