My favorite one of yours is the last one B,D-The satisfied look on his face, the empty plate, the bottle of bubbly--the lovely table and his tats--Like the entire set.
Ok--I'm posting these--and I know you will say you can't tell it's Thanksgiving--in my defense--it was my first time making turkey and we had lots of people over--like 29 and I had to be the good hostess, so I put my camera down for the good stuff --but my turkey was kickin!

I really love the second one -- the chocolate face and the rest of the expressions are just wonderful.

1. The youngest was particularly interested in her dessert options. Mom said for today, there were no limits....
The teens checked out with their iWhatevers...
Dad in the late-night feats of strength....

Thanks for the exercise, B.D.!
BD, I love the juxtaposition of the formal table, fine china, heirloom silver and tattoos - it's a wonderful statement about the rather jumbly times we're currently living in where every day we see social values and traditions flip-flopping back and forth between extremes in all sorts of ways.
I didn't really get any *people* shots which say "Thanksgiving" (and I posted the gastroporn shots in Challenges already), but I did manage to catch a series of my mom - she HATES having pictures taken and always complains when I get the camera out, but this year I just kept shooting and shooting until she finally started to ignore me It probably doesn't say "Thanksgiving" to anybody else, but to me it shouts T-day 2009 loud and clear....

Diva--really like your series--it's something that I think will be a keeper for years to come--my favorite thing is that she is wearing the apron for all the shots---that says it all.
I also posted my food shots on the challenges thread--if anyone is just dying to see my turkey .
Andrew-your set, you are right about the little girls expression in #1--I still get that way when I see chocolate. But my favorite is the teens looking a little bored and sullen our teens were relegated to the basement--get yourself one of those, they are great .
Travis--I too wondered if she was wathcing football--the tension and the expression don't shout "I'm watching the Thanksgiving Day parade".

Lest you think this is just too sad, this was merely phase one of a Magical Thanksgiving Mystery Tour, which took us to four more locations - to various family members and friends, a great day, all told.
Saturday night, they'll come to me for TGII.

Wonderful, Liz! First and second are perfect The third one works in context in the series, but if it were standing alone, I'd have a real problem with it because of the total lack of sharpness of a point of focus.

Football game? Works for me, though...

Sara,
That one picture says more to me than all the others put together! That's the one I'd like to have taken!!!
Nice job!

Lovely image, Sara - very stark. Very simple.

Wow - thank you. Actually, I was thinking the same thing about all of the shots above - there are some really good ones.

Thanks, BD. And I guess you figured out it was a self-portrait, which perhaps adds to the starkness - there was literally nobody else in the room.
Great assignment - great images - loved your #2 - if looks could kill - which I notice didn't stop you

Diva, great photo board. Love it.
Sara, not depressing but stark and emotional. Well done!!!

Thanks, Andrew - love your kitchen shot, a glimpse into a home, a family.

People are using the word "stark" for your shot, and yes that's it--I couldn't pin it--But I did keep going back to it.
BTW my dining room has a end to end vaulted low ceiling---glad to see someone else does:D .

Thanks, Liz - love yours - the faces, the BW - very good! These all make me feel as if I was at everyone's table yesterday.

Due to illness, our family Thanksgiving will be celebrated tomorrow. Meanwhile, here are a few taken of those who worked on turkey day to make it special for others (or in the case of some of us, to lift our spirits because we felt left out on this special family day).

Very nice series, BD. I can feel the life in these pictures - conversations, laughter, food, lovely table, minor annoyance at the photographer, satiation, togetherness. Everything we think of as being the best of Thanksgiving.
Color serves this series well. The table is so lovely and, while it would look beautiful in black and white, some of the elegant feel would be lost.

Nice series Liz. I like the first two best. The sense of animated gathering in the first and the expressions in the second.
Congratulations on your first turkey and handling such a crowd!! You have no doubt started a Thanksgiving tradition.

PS - I just looked again at the third and it is growing on me. It reminds me of the pleasures of being a child among a gathering of adults. You can get away with doing stuff that is normally limited or forbidden!

She is off in her world, concentrating. Football? Probably since it is Thanksgiving day, but maybe she is just thinking about giving thanks.
Very nice photograph, Travis.

I am especially impressed because you managed to be in it and look like you are part of the scene.
But that aside, it is a picture one could gaze at for hours making up stories about the two people, their meal and the room.
