Great set Ron! I particularly liked 1, 2 and 7 especially because I've been dying to hike the subway recently. Congratulations on a great set from the year
Thanks Chris, the Subway is awesome, actually all of Zion is awesome. I was there only three days this year and it was far too short, hopefully I'll make up the deficit next year.
Hard to think that someone who's quality and and base level such as yours Ron could grow even more but I definately see big growth during the last year compared to the year before. I think your decision to branch out and visit new locations to shoot was a great one.
While I enjoy the two photos from one of your "staple" locations (Wa coast), I really love the two you chose from your Yellowstone trip. The contrast between the dead snags and the sunrise light is fantastic and I love how it looks like a repeating scene in the second photo as it appears as if the snag is slowly sinking into the ground as you travel back in the scene. To sum up, nice work, Ron.
Thanks Steve! This was the first year I took more than three days off from work in three years, so I tried to take advantage, and I was also more willing to take crazy 5-8 hour round-trip day trips on the spur of the moment if the forecast looked promising. Yellowstone is amazing, I hope to make it there next year a few times, it's only an 11 hour drive from Seattle
Ron - Wow! I see several shots in your "top ten" that I hadn't seen before, and I like them all. Just from what I've seen of the shots you post on DGrin, I'd sure have a tough time choosing ten that I liked.
All three sets are very very nice... ...Even though I've only been an active participant on this forum for about three months I've never introduced myself through way of a sampling of my previous pictures. I had a really good year as far as getting out a lot and taking pictures. These are ten photos that I really liked (kind of hard to pick ten):
Excellent! You just put the Sawtooth Wilderness and Lost River Range on the map for me! Next time I'm on my way to Yellowstone I should stop in Idaho for a few days
I'm lucky this isn't a competition, I'd be sorely outmatched here, but here are my favorites from 2009!
And that's my Top 10 (hey, the Big Ten actually has 11 members, I can have 11 photos in my top 10!!) thus far for 2009! We've still got some time left this year, and since all my Christmas shopping is already done, this weekend will be photo time so hopefully I'll catch a couple more good ones!
Nice set Chris! My favorites are the Toroweap shots.
Deciding on 10 is difficult when you shoot all kinds of things but considering this is the Landscape section I'll throw out 10 landscape shots from this year.
wow. love this thread. some absolutely incredible stuff here. pretty glad i came across dgrin as it is has been rather inspirational and helps challenge my rather suboptimal photographic techniques.
ron... have enjoyed looking at your photos for the past half year, and to have them be summed up in a top ten is pretty cool. stellar set. hard to pick a fave, but i am particular drawn to 1, 2, 6 and 7.
aaron c... very nice set. enjoy how clean and crisp your pictures look. i particularly like #6 and #10. looking forward to more of your posts.
chris ... cool shots. i like the moods of toroweap that you've captured. but for me, #1 and #3 are just stunners. nicely done.
aaron n... incredible set. #1, 3, 5, and 7 are standouts.
well, sorta hard to narrow it down to my ten, but here are a few:
10. Obligatory Seattle Skyline shot. Seattle had been my home for decades, but had never ventured out to Kerry Park to shoot the classic Seattle skyline. Finally did so this year. Does an 'urban landscape' qualify in a landscape forum? Besides... there is a mountain in the background!
9. Death in Death Valley.
8. Morning at Eureka Dunes.
7. Reflections on the Merced River.
6. Roadside Forest Fire north of Mbarara. We were rushing to get back into town before it got too late, so I could only spend a few minutes to witness and capture the event before our hosts got too worried. I have never been this close to a forest fire before.
5. Icebergs at Jokulsarlon Lake
4. Icebergs at Jokulsarlon Lake
3. Wintry Moon on Mount Shuksan
2. Mount Shuskan from picture lake.
1. Early morning Startrails on Mount Baker. The fun thing about this photo was that I was able to meet, by pure chance, a fellow dgrinner (did not know it at the time) during the weekend this photo was taken. It is nice to know that I am not the only crazy nut out there braving the frozen cold in the dark experimenting with photo techniques!

Thank you all for you compliments!!! All sets have been great. It's nice to see more that just somebody's singular favorite image.
Ron - The Sawtooths/White Clouds have a LOT of lakes to hike/backpack to. The Lost River Range only has three lakes that I know of that are of any size and have trails. However, getting to the trailheads requires high clearance (maybe 4WD, depending on mud) and is at least an hour from the highway. That said, all three ranges are spectacular and should be visited. By the way, I really like your Rainier and Yellowstone images...
Chris M. - Great thread idea! I too really like the elephant image because is so different and has great texture. The Death Valley images are also very good.
Steve C. - That first picture of Rainier is outstanding!!
Chris S. - I like both of the Toroweap pictures but I particularly like the "Ghost Tree."
Aaron N. - I like the blue cast of your first two images...the racetrack picture is also very nice!
Dan - Those icebergs look great (especially, the second image)!
Steve mac - Nice set...I like the clouds throughout the set but particularly from the last two images.
Here are My Top Ten for 2009
A couple of these aren't true landscapes but I hope they are close enough for this thread! These are some that I really like from my various trips in 2009.
Thanks for looking,
Lauren
1. Single tonemapped image - Coco Beach in Puerto Rico
2. same beach at sunset
3. 3-exposure HDR - dusk at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery
4. Single tonemapped - Southern Wyoming, off Highway 287 just north of Ft Collins, CO
5. Just outside Rocky Mountain National Park in CO
6. FromThunder Hole - during the Acadia shootout - Blended sky/rocks ACR exposures
7. Looking from the Lincoln Monument along I-80 in Wyoming
8. A stream in the woods, near Richmond ME
9. Looking north on the Eagleland section of San Antonio's Riverwalk - PP with Topaz Adjust
10. 3 exp HDR shot of Portland Head Light on a cold winter day in February
"But ask the animals, and they will teach you." (Job 12:7)
They all look like great shots but the watermark is a bit intrusive. Can you repost with something a little smaller? I'd really like to have a good look.
Wow, there is some great work here on Dgrin! I thoroughly enjoyed going through this thread. Sitting here late on New Year's Eve I have just discovered this thread. So here's my attempt at finding my favorite ten shots from the past year.
#1:
#2: Sunrise at Mesa Arch, Canyonlands National Park
#3: Late Afternoon in Mt. Rainier National Park
#4: An hour's worth of air traffic over Seattle
#5: Rolling hills of the Palouse
#6: Sunrise at Mt. Rainier
#7: Arch Angel Falls, Zion National Park
#8: Sunset over the Watchman in Zion National Park
#9: Wildflower-filled meadow in Mt. Rainier National Park
Great selection, Danny. I'd have a hard time choosing 10 of yours but I like all of these. I think #3 and #5 are two of my all-time faves of yours. I could sit and stare at #3 all day, and the subtle hues and the curves in #5 make for an exquisite image. Can't wait to see what you come up with in 2010!
Happy New Year!
Lauren

Danny, Great shots!!
Just wondering how to take a shot like this last one? My attempts always have the stars moving? What is the exif and 'how to' for a shot like this?
