We're lucky to have such a great place to stay on top of what is going on! So many times companies say down for maintenance and we don't have a clue about progress.
I work with computers and applications all the time - and I appreciate what you are doing!!! And understand the "it didn't do this in our test environment!"
Can't wait to see the end results.
Hang in there and good luck! I'll be praying to the 'computer gods' for good luck.
Good grief people - leave the smugmug folks alone and let them work - all this negativity - get over it - they are working their tails off all night long to make this work and resolve problems and they have to respond to all these silly comments about ETA's and blah, blah blah - obviously you have no idea how much effort goes into a big relesae like this -
I for one appreciate all the work these folks do - they have the best darn photo hosting site and are CONSTANTLY working to improve and enhance it - thanks Smugmug!!!
Thanks - but we'd never ignore anyone - we really try to avoid this sort of thing.
We knew we'd have some hard downtime with this release - and said so - the chosen time was the best we could do (yeah, we know it sucks for down under, NZ, Asia, that side of the world).
Then we encountered some stuff that wasn't replicable on our extensive testbeds, which is unfortunate, but rest assured, our sorcerers and Chief Geek (Don/Onethumb) are on it and working as fast and smart and hard as possible.
We'll get it done as soon as we can. Thanks to all for your incredible patience
Why not do it prorata? It is indeed inconvenient (I am in Asia) for us. Say you have 25% customers from Asia, then you make 25% of these maintenance happen at a time that will not be inconvenient for us?

I always enjoy sitting here watching people work as my till isn't ringing as a result of paying for something that should be working.
If it was free would I mind, no, the fact that I am paying means I do expect a little bit more.
Sounding like a broken record, yes, time smug did something about it, yes
Happy for you that this 'smugburp' isn't an issue, good to see you have empathy for those suffering as a result.
We'll possibly bounce in and out of read-only mode for a bit - and maybe a short downtime, too. We'll update Status Blog with an all clear when we're done.

Thanks Andy and all the Smug Heros/Coders/Magicians
Even cooler! I only had a few minute window while not in read-only mode!
We are now out of read-only mode. We're hoping that everything is solid now, but there may be some lingering performance issues for a while.
Again, we are really, really sorry about the extended, unannounced downtime. It's inexcusable. But please don't let that hinder you from enjoying the new toys!

Virtual copies are a great new feature - thanks! In my brief experimentation with it, it looks like the destination gallery's settings for viewing (i.e. small, medium, large, etc.) are ignored and only the source gallery's settings are honored for these virtual copies. Is that true?
Still Some Bug Issues?
I'm having some issues with arranging my photos in a new gallery I created last night. After messing with the gallery for a while trying to get it to auto arrange and then arranging manually, the poor thing gives up and tells me there are no photos in that gallery...

True, in fact all the settings from the source gallery are honored; right click protection, pricing, etc.

Please write our Support Heroes with the gallery link thanks.

I use a separate gallery to host images for my blog, and that gallery doesn't allow access to larger sizes. I guess virtual copies won't help me out here and I'll have to continue to upload the same photo multiple places?

Awesome I've been using keywords to get similar results but the ability to share between family/friends is HUGE. First step towards stock? Plus managing galleries just got a whole lot easier. Great job Smugmug. Well worth the downtime! http://www.grahamwaiting.com

Thanks - both for the message here and to your team for fixing the problem.
