NW Scout... You have just made my New Years Resoloution even bigger now! First it was to get the Flash Skills better, then after seeing the before and after shots of yours, add Photoshop skills to that!
May not be the place - but how many flashes were used on this?

Hey.
That strip shot is really bad if you look at it close.
It's a 5 min job on my lap top just to show the idea of it to the riders.
I did the shot with 4 lights.
1 on camera flash powered way down for just a pinch of fill.
Main light is camera left (small soft box)
1 strobe camera left behind and to the side of the rider to add a little rim light.
1 strobe camera right near the ground lighting up the bike and rider and filling up under the visor of the helmet.

he says go to strobist dot com and everything in that book is there for free.

any input appreciated on that website.
I'm not sure what book you're talking about but David Hobby and www.strobist.com are an awesome resource for flash photographers. You can spend hours and hours learning.

strobist is a great site, I've learned a ton there.
There are also a bunch of videos on youtube about flash photography.
Was crazy cold at the track today. The usual epic muddy conditions were replaced by freezing cold and high winds.
The whole track was frozen solid most of the day and not many people stopped for pics. I ended up shooting action shots most of the day, but at least I got a few good portraits.

Nice John !
I in particular like the second image for using a slow shutter not your every day shots keep it up.......ed
I scouted the shot location today and it should work out pretty good. Now I just need lots of mud and a cool sky and it should all be good.
That is kick ass.

Very nicely done
