The road to Sunrise in Mt. Rainier National Park opened on noon Friday, so I left Friday night to take some shots of Rainier and the moon (and partial lunar eclipse) along with the sunrise.

#1: Little Tahoma Peak and the partial lunar eclipse (the eclipse peaked about 40 minutes later but it was behind the mountains then)

I agree- #3 is the best. I also like #4 but wish there was more foreground to it. The cloud filled valleys really add interest.

wow. spectacular stuff, ron! #1 is just out of this world. #2 reminds of the misty mountains and the lonely mtn in the background. great colors and leading lines. great layers in 3, and an incredible job on #5 with the backlit moon. really stopped me for awhile to examine it.

I checked for the exif data on your gallery, but it seems as though you've turned that feature off?
Do you mind sharing the details for number 3 especially? I'm specifically interested in the time of day - how long before sunrise?
    Thanks

4:50 AM, about 25 minutes before sunrise. I could tell early on that it was going to be a colorful sunset that way, but the contrast would be pretty crazy by then.

I was just glad to be back up there, I hadn't been to Sunrise since August last year. I stopped at Chinook Pass before and it was completely covered in cloud, I then hit it on the way back and it was still covered, so I'm lucky Sunrise was open (it's about 1,000 feet higher, just enough to squeak above the layer of clouds).

Thanks! That was a single RAW exposure that I processed once for the foreground and another time for the background and then did a manual blend in Photoshop.

I hear you on #4, but I couldn't zoom out without getting tree tops in the foreground.

I'm glad you liked #1, it was the best shot I had of the eclipse (ISO 2000 f/4 for one second - as short of an exposure as I could get away with). On #5 you can see the mountain climber headlamps. The moon was setting right at dawn, so I had front light from they sky and back light from the moon.

Yep, 2-4 were all taken at Sunrise Point, which is the parking area about 4 miles before the visitor center. #2 and #4 were facing south, #4 just east of Mt. Rainier, #3 was facing north.
