Did any of your second shooters / assistants get any photos of you shooting at a wedding (or did you ever catch yourself in a reflection?)? Any takers??
The father of the bride insisted that he take a picture of me with my camera. This is about 14 hours into my day, so it ain't overly pretty. Got the guns blazin' though! Ha!
I only did one wedding as an EXTREME favor to my dearest friend & I hope to never do another one, but the F O B did get one shot of me. He did a great job of avoiding me all day, but I 'finally' caught him and just as I set to take the photo of him he lifted his camera and got me. They have the picture he took in their album of the day but they didn't give me a copy of it to share.
I tried so hard all day to keep my reflection out of the shots I took. My camera's reflection is in one of the ring shots, but none of me.
I will enjoy seeing everyone else's shots, though!!
Aaaaahahahah!! Good one Matt! And boy, 14h????? Please tell me you weren't shooting for 14h ... or even 12h, I'm all dead after 10!! WOW
Got a couple too, I didn't bother touching them up, so please pardon the look.
One of me doing some morning exercise with the couple + the bridal party:
(I actually don't think this pic worked out, as the wall in front of them was too big .... you probably saw that one coming ... )
Same wedding: :lynnsite
Right before a backyard ceremony (sorry just a quick snap ... Don't kill me because of the blown chairs, this is not what they got ...):
Shooting in Mexico while 7.5 months pregnant. Agnieszka did not bother wearing anything black, figured I'd fit more into the landscape wearing palm tree colors .... and yes, shooting for 10h that day was painful, but oh so worth it.
Some from a recent wedding:
Me in the front left corner, boy was it hard shootign in that church. The videographer was half way in the aisle (on the right). I felt like I was in the way wherever I stood: :hide
And booooyyyyy, was it a hot day that day, haha!! (no, I'm not pregnant) :whew
I have a few...even though I have usually worked alone....
The bride's brother in law sent me this...that he captured while I was using some window-light awesomeness in a hotel prior to a wedding in Gulf Shores, Alabama....
It was a beach wedding....hence the shorts!
Lauren (L.K.Madison) caught me framing up a bouqet toss last December...
....Lauren and I, captured by a guest with one of my cameras....
....I have many many more from non-wedding related shoots...
I really love these. You guys are all just too cute!
(and we now find out that 1. Matt looks NOTHING like his avatar and 2. Jeff takes an abundance of his shots while lying down. Duly noted, gentlemen :giggle)

it's just the long hair diva! That is new and is my current post-youth rebellion! And yes Angie... That day I left the house at 6am and got home around 1ish. Shooting was from 8am at the salon till after 11 at the reception and the photo is probably about 8-9pm. I was toast!
I wanna try it as well, but I've been too lazy to find and cut the foam -_-
Just get a bottle coozie from a gas station or grocery store and cut it to size. You will want to put a stitch or drop of glue along the seam where you cut though or it may unravel on you. Turn inside out to hide the label. The color doesn't seem to make any difference. Mine is a kelly green rolling rock coozie I got for free at a bar one night and I haven't noticed any odd color aberations.

I bought the foam at Target - 8.5 x 11 sheets, each good for one Black Foamy Thing.
To make them look really professional, I used a saucer and an exacto knife to cut the shape. They are held on with some of those stretchy rubber band things - my daughter uses them in her hair. I've found to stop the Foamy Things falling off, it's best to use four band things per flash.
They take about five minutes to make and make a huge difference - no direct flash spills onto the subjects at all, a nice natural look. I've had people compliment me on my available light images - little do they know!!

Theres a 3 step ladder no more than ten feet away in every one of those shots!

Last weekend we were working in a very small Albanian restaurant in Boston so we appear a few times in the shots.
Here's one where we both captured our images at the same time:

I guess I did it on purpose.
I travel alone, and never ask anyone to shoot me.
I do like pictures of photographers though.

Interesting black foam thingy. Niekerk's half snoot technique?

Yep - I use a lot of the time indoors. Gives just a dash of oomph to the images without that direct flash look.
Over the years I tried most of the flash modifiers and find this to be best (and way cheap, of course!)
Cheers!
