I'm enjoying all the entries here.
This assignment has me really struggling with low light shooting.
Plus I've been out of comish for a few days with strep--my question is--we still have another week right?
Jenn,
Your shot blew me away.
M38A1--I like the colors in your night shot.
desertfisch--nicely done. I too like the speeding train in contrat with the solitary figure.
Worse comes to worse I'll post one of my crappy shots--but I'm hoping to get more (hopefully not more crappy shots )

Yep, another week. Hope you feel better.
Good stuff so far, everyone. I've been out a couple of times and have managed to get a few OK shots, but want to give it at least one more try to see what I have learned from my many mistakes. Since this is an exercise, not a contest, it might be helpful if everyone posted a short explanation of what they tried, what worked, what didn't and what they might work on in future attempts.
I'll be the first to point out one failed strategy, which was to look for the brightest street light I could find. I did get the shot, but it looked almost like a daytime shot with a weird white balance and didn't feel like night at all.
You know, I prefer the SOOC colour shot, Tracker. I find the background less distracting and the lack of focus is less noticeable. I like the muted colours too.

I'd fall in the B&W camp for this one as it shows the detail of the runners, but it's a matter of personal taste. As I look at it again, it needs a little straightening. A slight bump clockwise.
Lovely Didgeree Doo! Great moment with the pedestrian stepping and looking like at the playing say, 'What is that and why is it making such strange noises???"

Richard, did he know to blow in her ear, not on her toes??? This is a great shot - love the interaction, the musician's right hand and the pedestrian's foot work.

Yeah.. where's everyone else's photo's?
I guess everyone is either shooting some night shots or in the process of post processing.
Or they can be watching TV with thier feet up...
I'm not worthy but I'll play.... I think my 25+ year old 50mm f/1.8 has finally given up the farm for crispness...
Savory or Sweet?
I think it looks good.. it should be able to be sharpened in post processing, right?

That's about all I could wring out of it. Jeez, that lens is ancient so I think this forces me to purchase a new one.
Thanks!
.
Since this is an exercise, thoughts on the SOOC, versus what I did PP?

Great Shot! I like the interaction between the lady and the "musician".
Very cool image- is that being projected on to the "screen"?
The "screen" is the wall of the building, it is concrete block.

This is one night I forgot both of my pods and my ISO never is set over 1000.
Thanks Patti!
I don't like happenstance "PJ" shots as a rule, but this one is intriguing. Can you repost as a larger version?
Nice variety of shots so far .
