Oh no, I didn't see this thread when it started and now the matching is over. How did I miss this ... ack ... well, I've donated anyway and then matched my own donation. Makes me feel better for missing this.

Congratulations to Dgrin and Smugmug for their outstanding generosity!

My donation missed it too, but my workplace has decided to donate $100,000 as well as match any donations by employees, so my donation will be doubled and that makes me feel a bit better. There's also "goods drives" in our area and I'm sure in most areas of the US. Baby formula, diapers, clothes, shoes, canned goods, whatever we can donate will also be a huge help in addition to the generosity already displayed.

    Summary of results?
We made our Red Cross donation today, after finally discovering how to get an "instant" receipt to submit to Andy ... then discovered the "second page" of this thread, so may have missed the window for donation matching.

If the window has closed, then Andy, could you post some kind of summary re how it went? If not absolute $$ (which would be up to Baldy to release or not), then perhaps a summary of how many people responded, etc?

Thanks to DGrin/SmugMug (Baldy et al) for their incredible generosity!
...and to Andy, for donating so much of his time to this (not to mention, 2 substantial personal monetary donations)

I was just wondering. Is anything like this on tap for the Harvey victims?

  • ashbyashby Registered Users Posts: 72 Big grins

    Anyone?

I can't speak for SmugMug but if you're looking to give on behalf of Harvey victims check out the donate sections of this FEMA page - https://www.fema.gov/volunteer-donate-responsibly.

Hey @ashby (and other who are interested), thanks for asking. We have already worked on relief for our customers in the affected region, in a way that we hope directly helps those in need. You haven't heard about it because we've been trying to help out without making a huge PR deal about it.

We are not currently planning to do a matching campaign the way we did more than a decade ago in this thread, but our own efforts are more substantial this time around too. That being said, I heard some great suggestions from a lot of really generous and amazing pro photographers using our platform that they'd love to donate some of their profits directly to the relief efforts. It's a really great idea that sadly we aren't currently prepared to facilitate, but we're already discussing how that might work in the future. Hopefully we can make an even bigger impact in any future situation.

In the meantime, if you are in the affected region who needs some billing relief and haven't heard from us privately and directly, please reach out to our support heroes and we'll do our best to help.
