headscratch.gifThe lace in the tree is just OK. But I"m not sure what you can do to give any of those shots some "wow" factor.

I think the lingerie has some potential, particularly #5 and #6. If you can clone those wood grain remnants out and keep the background a stark white you've have some good material for this challenge. What might also work really well is a shot of that camisole hanging to dry on a clothesline. mwink.gif

    Lost a post somehow!~

I actually am reverse of Linda in that I think you're onto something with the banded Lace.....Makes me want to see it attached to a Garment of some sort...perhaps with some intended though subtle reverence.

    Much better. thumb.gif

I'm leaning more toward the sepia than the B&W. But let's see what other input you get. :D

    hooh...sorry about the vagueness!

From what I've seen of the challenges thus far, it appears to me that many of them are often referred thematically within the context of another idea, or foci. When I saw your lovely Lace, simple, banded and in the bush, I thought about that kind of trim upon a garment of some sort.

But please, pay little attention to me, my brain works artistically, but is rarely within line/s of contests.

I did think the banded/trim of Lace was lovely!

And more to emphasize my thought.....

I imagined that banded lace sewn into the cuff of a vestment of a clergy as he reaches for a door knob.....

Way, way too over the top, ya see?

Really? Which one ... #1, 2, or 3? Do you think it need any other editing?

Yeah, I imagined as I said,: upon the vestment of a clergy. SO editing? yeah, a different photo entirely!

What I was saying is, I think the banded Lace is good, and it evokes other ideas...at least in me. Sorry I wasn't much help to you otherwise. I rarely give opinions unless asked....but sometimes.....hmmp...sometimes I am overtaken by imagery like many others.

I think the Lace would work well as it is if....IF this theme was in COLOR!

I appreciate your comments....... I don't usually get a photo that is as good as alot of the other photographers here get. I tend to want to be more artistic with editing since I'm still learning and my actual photos don't usually measure up.

    Cool!

Well, I hear ya. Never, ever stop pleasing yourself! As far as judging against others, so very subjective, faddish even, our world is full of subtle faddish commentary.... it comes, it goes, it recycles ever-so often. Some folks are very technically oriented, and others are not. Whether you went to art school or not really doesn't matter in contests. In contests what matters is two-fold, did you meet the criteria, and who is judging. Some of the photos here are over the top fantastic. Often I don't even attempt it. because most often I have no motivation. When I do find motivation, I go with that. Vis, lace. I love pretty things, prettiness...so lace resonates.

I love lace, too. I took some photos of lace onmy daughters wedding down, but I just don't know if they have any wow factor to them... beautiful lace, tho... beaded and sequinned, too.

Just keep an open mind for a few days....give it rest, give it thought when you want and just like a gift, you know you'll find just the right one to enter~

Of course you could also look back into the photos of your Daughters dress and see if any have potential for layers or some such.

ok ... I'll think on it for a few days. Maybe find some other opportunities to take some other photos, too.

The latest ones are not really doing it for me.

The camisole could work really well hanging on a line with a breeze blowing it. A garment that light would hang nicely. Something like this: 1022938205_VYchx-S.jpg

It's not a camisole, tho... it's a long lace slip. I tried full length version of it ... in order to actually see the lace the image has to be rather large at full length. Not sure it'd look good at full length.

I understand. It might still work for the challenge, even if the lace is not as prominent - implied lace. Or not (:D). ISTM that photos that are most obviously on theme tend to do better.

Maybe a closer view of it hanging over a chair?

Direction? Laughing.gif I'm lucky to get these shots in focus. So, not sure what you mean by the 'direction' I'm going? Are you saying I need to take more photos or edit it differently?

By direction, I mean from the first photos you posted in this thread; I like the latest ones (your third theme) for the theme the best. :)

If it were me, I would probably play around with composition and exposure a bit. I like the contrast between the lace and what looks like patent leather, but I'm not sure if the white background is helping the photo or taking a bit away from it.

You're probably going to laugh, but I already played around with composition and exposure... :) I could do it in color with a sepia filter... is that what you mean?

    Hi Jenn,

This latest set is moving in the right direction IMO. The post processing of your first images with monochrome posterizing is a little loud that doesn't match the softness of lace IMO.

    So far I like # 12. I think it's overexposed though.

Don't forget to keep in mind that it is Monotone. The ones with color probably wouldn't work.

edit** oops, forgot to say. I really like #12. The everything is nice and sharp and I like the darkness of the lace and shoes.
