What about eliminating the left border of the table and make the reflections on the sunglasses only with smoke?

I made a very rough example using your image here:

    Okay Tatiana!

A re-do after the wonderful guidance from you. I really liked the cmoke idea! I chose to crop versus extend the table. I was keeping the table only to show perspective...and really would prefer more crop than I have, but, overall I think it to be balanced.

    How about it?

My real only question, after this is: Does this really say invention?

As invention it can be maybe something like "A new puzzle game" or similar I guess headscratch.gif

As image I think it's better now, but I would soften the shadow of the book, because a very sharp geometrical
element doesn't match with the other elements that are all soft, or curved. I little more texture can be added to the
left side of the background too, in order to fill a little more the space - I think

PS: what actually bothered me from the beginning is the close alignment of the book to the table edge.

    - maybe you can stretch it out or in...

*** NO - just rotate the book a little more (left->down)

It is so funny to read the perspective remarks. It is something I reassessed after JAG's comments. The work you are looking at (last), shadows and all are the puzzle box on the table, and the resultant shadows cast by a naked bulb in the candle holder. In other words, it is real and proportionate. I shot it from appx. 10 ft. away and had the candle holder with lit bulb and box top all in the place you now see them, shadows are the ones it cast.

I can hardly stop laughing because if it weren't for the shadows I'd have never gotten this far with this idea!rolleyes1.gif

It's a little difficult to go back and forth between the original and the new image. Maybe if you put them together,
it will be easier to see what you had and what you have done, so we can help.

Comparing the 2, in my personal opinion:

    - the book (box) is too long, in the original - better in the corrected version.
    - in the original, the shadow is too spread out, but in the corrected version is too geometrical - something in between would do it.

    PS;

I also like that the candle is closer to the lady, in the original... rolleyes1.gif

    - Disregard please - maybe you can put them closer

I was wondering how you managed to not get any shadow on the table from the candle but the puzzle box has a dark defined shadow? If the candle was blown out the light source wouldn't be from the center, but on the womans shoulder it looks like the light is in front of her.... I'm a bit confused as to where the light is coming from.

Jenn, I think if I had to shoot this over again, I'd certainly do it differently! But, this is how it was originally shot.

I'll revisit it sometime today. Thanks for all of your eye-ful thoughts!
