I finally caved in and bought an ipad. Productivity levels dropped to 0% since I bought this baby! :rofl

Question, what apps do you recommend? I recently installed the smugmug app (how could I resist?) and was wondering about Britton Photography's iPad app. Has anyone used it? Thoughts on another wedding/image portfolio app? Or should I test the waters for you guys and gals?

I've just used the standard photo viewer for client meetings. It works very well for showing albums designs too, they can sorta flip the pages.

Hey Ted, I like the app called portfolio. I believe it is 15 bucks or so. You can rate each image and make comments while reviewing with clients. Also, it is easy to brand to your business with logos etc. You can make as many galleries as you would like and you can lock it so the client can't accidentally make any changes.

uhmm... right now 0% Business 100% fun! But I am hoping to change that soon... after I stop playing angry birds.

I saw that and thought maybe. But I think I might stick with the regular photo app they have stock on the ipad. Have you used this portfolio app? What do you like and don't like about it?

    Good luck with that! wings.gif

I'm also curious of what you think about actual productivity. Sure seems smarter than a new printed album every year.

I Love it. I use it all the time. Not only is it great for an impromtpu portfolio showing since it is branded with your logos etc. But it is so cool to use for an in person proofing session with a client. You are able to rate each image up to 5 stars and make comments about each image then export that to your computer when you get home. When I was proofing with the standard photo tool on the ipad, I would have to write each photo number and comments on paper then compare once I got home.

haha, I hear ya. Good luck getting one for Christmas. BTW, the 16 gig has plenty of space for a zillion images if you size them right. No need for the bigger 32/64 imho.

Thats what I'm doing.. but considering I just unloaded most of my cash on Canon gear... it'll probably be Christmas by the time I have enough saved. Unless this event I'm shooting this weekend orders a bunch of stuff. (CD + Album = I'm getting an iPad + extra cash)

It really is a wonderful tool. I have one with 3G and it is so nice having a connected "laptop" with me where ever I go. Amazing for roadtrips. But I warn those of you with kiddos, good luck getting it back!

I do have ipad envy, but I invested in the Quadras instead. Some day I will splurge on the ipad though, as soon as I can justify the expense :( For now I must live vicariously through you guys who have it :D!

I use Verizon, (although I guess Verizon has an ipad plan too now) so I would be getting the WiFi only version too.

Me too. You would have to pay a separate data plan for this AND for the smart phone. That is a definite no go for me!

I respectfully disagree. While it may be enough if you use it 100% solely for photos for clients, one might become too tempted to load it with other media such as music, slide-shows, games, books and MOVIES. My wife thought that the 32 Gigger was enough for her, despite my urging for her to get the 64. Now she wishes that she had listened to me. Hers is so full that every time she wants to load a new movie, she has to delete at least one old(er) movie. Heck, even my 64 Gigger isn't enough! If you can afford it, get the largest possible.

Good choice. If you HAVE to get online with it, just tether it to your phone and use your phone's 3G signal.

So Ted tell us. How do you get anything done at work? You are a professional facebooker, dgrinner, blogger AND twitterer???? How on earth do you do all that??eek7.gif

I got an ipad about 1.5 months ago (after my husband brought "his" back right after they came out >> nooooo! He said they didn't have enough apps ... > he's a kindle guy, flashy stuff doesn't impress him rolleyes1.gif) I love it! Spend way too much time with it, and gotta say, I actually enjoy not being able to do any work on it, kinda forces me to enjoy myself, which is nice :D (better than some friends that keep squeezing shoots with me before our move and then complain they don't get to see me, because I work so much headscratch.gifne_nau.gif>> really??)
Got a couple magazine subscriptions too, it's fun, and I actually did pretty well so far keeping up with them, as compared to all the printed magazines that are laying around our place (still wrapped, I might have to mention)

I have one and it is amazing. I use it if I go on a photoshoot and when I run out of space in my card I can upload all my photos (up to 32gb) to iPad without a computer and when I come home I can download it to Lughtroom. The beauty is that it uploads as well RAW files! And u can preview it straight away on iPad. It is an amazing peace of kit.

I've had one for a while, the small WIFI version, and I'm very happy with it. In fact, I'm reading and responding to DGrin right now on it.

I do use it partially for work but so far have only used the SmugMug ap and the built in photo viewer to show images. I also have an ap for creating contracts and another for model releases that can be signed on screen, saving searching for a pile of paper. Then, once signed, the PDF can be emailed to yourself and your client for filing, printing or whatever else you need.

When I traveled across the country in August it was my total entertainment system - music, books to read, movies to watch on the plane. I love my iPad!!!!!
