Is proof replacement uploading supposed to be this complicated?

I see the watermarks on your screen shot, Andy. And they're on mine as well, at every stage of my "buy" cart. I don't know where this tool is that you're talking about. I thought the only option for thumbnail watermarking (or not) was in gallery displays themselves, not in the "buy" cart. Right now, I can't even find that gallery tool. Could you tell me where to find both of these tools (the "buy" cart watermarking, as well as the gallery thumbs watermarking)? Thanks. [ETA: Sorry-- I did not see your earliest screenshots of the 'Make into watermark" page. But I'm quite sure I would have set those to "Thumbs: 'NO' ", and I do not show watermarks on my normal gallery display thumbs such as in SmugMug View. I don't think that pertains to the "Buy" cart, as I recall going through all this before. I'm terrified to edit my watermarks, as I've been through way too much re-watermarking. It seems very bizarre to me, no matter what this setting is really for, to set any thumbnail watermarking by the watermark itself, rather than by the gallery! ]

Well, bust me - I will look at this.

Ahh, the shopping cart uses a custom sized thumbnail, not a -Th thumb. So it'll have the watermark. I'll have to check on why we do this.

Also shows on the larger photo on cropping page where it's very obvious and afraid peeps will try to crop and not cut WM.

we put watermarks on photos in the cart for the same reason we put them on photos in the gallery (if you have watermarks turned on). Just because its in the cart doesn't mean that someone still cant save that image to their computer.

Exactly-- That's more where people notice it, for sure. It's not very noticeable on most little thumbs-- it's on the larger crop options where it scares people. But someone earlier stated precisely why Smug started doing this-- because some people got freaked out about photos getting stolen out of the buy cart. I really don't think the majority of people would have this concern, because those aren't originals, right? I certainly am not concerned about it. I would think very few people would decide to click on "buy" if what they really wanted to do is steal the file.

Then I would suggest instead of their WM add a Smugmug one saying
something like "grab corners to crop photo" so the buyer sees it as instructions
and doesn't think it will be printed.

I couldn't find the thread quickly, but I remember that this was a specific feature request a few years ago. Originally there were no watermarks in the shopping cart. The problem someone discovered was that a non-watermarked version of the image could easily be stolen.

    So smugmug added the watermark.

This should be customizable by the photog. We should be able to choose from:

    1) Watermark everything (thumbs and larger images).
    2) Watermark above size X, don't watermark smaller (e.g. don't watermark thumbnails).
    3) Watermark everything *except* thumbnails shown in the shopping cart.

We should be able to set this site-wide as well as override it for any given gallery.

My prediction - despite how this is a real UI and customer support issue, 365 days from today it will be just as broken as it is now. Meanwhile they will roll out some shiny new features that we never knew we needed, while we KNOW we need this one FIXED.
