Welcome to Round #111 of the Dgrin Mini-Challenges
Your theme is: Winter Scene
Something that I don't have a lot of in my portfolio is winter scenes, so this round, let's see your best winter scenes. It can be snow-covered mountains, the warmth of a fire, Thomas Kinkade style scenes, Florida winters, winter sports, etc. It's wide open!
The challenge begins now, and ends on Friday, December 17th, 2010 at 12:01 AM PDT. Good Luck !
GENERAL RULES
1. Have fun sharing and seeing what others share!
2. The host supplies a topic and you post 1-3 images. The host judges the winners (1st, 2nd and 3rd) and is not eligible to enter.
The 1st place winner then chooses the next topic, judges the winner and passes on the baton to the new champion.
3. Any photo you’ve taken is eligible, regardless of when taken or camera used.
4. Any amount of post-processing is allowed. However, it is helpful if you list your camera and lens along with your photo.
You may comment on other contestant's images. If you want someone to leave you some critique or criticism, put an asterisk (*) next to the title of the image.
5. * The winner has up to three days (72 hours) to begin a new mini-challenge, or the honor goes to the #2 finisher and so forth.
Guidelines:
1. Enter 1-3 photos and put them in a single post.
2. Either embed your image in the thread or, if you must, supply a link to it. Keep in mind, however, most people don't want to click to open photos hosted elsewhere (i.e. on your website).
3. Also try and re-size your photos prior to posting so they're sized appropriately for viewing without having to scroll (~800 pixels on the longest side works best.)
4. Give each image you enter a title.
5. Enjoy discussion with members about their images, don't let this just be an entry thread!
6. Don't be hesitant, share them and enter! <!-- / message --><!-- sig -->

ghinson - I really like your #2--the colors are great against the white snow, and it definitely tells a story.
Nice entries so far....I'll see if I have anything.

For the record, winter is Florida is totally boring... otherwise I'd represent. For example, I took this photo from our office window yesterday (SOC):

CygnusX1: Oh my...that sinking snowman might be one of my favorite snowman shots ever! Great job!
Davev: All gorgeous as always...but that eagle! Oh my goodness! Wow. Look at those talons! My jaw dropped.
Actually, everyone--such a good job so far! Well done!

The best part of your praise, I thought the deer shot was my best one.
Just goes to show, you never know.
So get your shots in here.
Molsondog, I love that second shot.

Dave - Fantastic shot of the eagle! Where did you take that one? It is stunning!
senorjax - That triptych is beautiful--a work of art worthy of a large print on a wall!

Well... there's not any snow to be found in my neck of the woods, so in the broader spirit of "Winter Scenes" here are my humble submissions. All three were actually captured during the winter months right here in Escondido, CA (home of the pile of ash formerly known as the Bomb Factory House).
1. Hockey Practice... Yeah, ok. It's Roller Hockey.
2. Buddhist Tet Observance for Peace
3. New Year's Flamenco

What I really like about these two is the juxtoposition of vertical images with opposite left-right orientations and the contrast of snow and rock with the common element of water. Very nice!

This is wonderful. You've taken a cliche and made it new. Kudos!

I really like all of your submissions for this mini-challenge, but the stark contrast of the blues and whites in this image really catches my attention. Nice work!

Really like this one. It draws me in and stimulates my imagination about a backstory to the whole scene. Cool!

Hey Bend the Light...
Hope you dodged the snowball from that last shot! Looks like you were having a great time!

Well... either you're playing with perspective on an incoming snowball - or the guy on the right's about to get a majorly large snowball on his noggin!
Nice moment.

Whoa. I'm shivering just looking at this. It really provides a sense of place and environment. I can almost see the Edmund Fitzgerald on the horizon.
