Mini Challenge #118 – One More For the Road

edited April 10, 2011 in The Dgrin Challenges
Well, hello everyone. I didn't expect to be back in this position so soon. Hopefully I can live up to the honor again. After thinking about it today I decided on One More For The Road as a theme. What I'm looking for are images where a roadway (paved or dirt) is integral to the composition. Take away the roadway and the photo no longer has the same impact.

This Mini will run until 7:00 pm (East Coast USA) Sunday April 10, 2011.

Here are a few examples of what I'm looking for.

But, the most important part as usual is just to have fun with it everyone. So give me One More For The Road, or two, or three. :D

OUR UN-OFFICIAL GENERAL RULES
1. Have fun sharing and seeing what others share!
2. The host supplies a topic and you post 1-3 images. The host judges the winners (1st, 2nd and 3rd) and is not eligible to enter.
The 1st place winner then chooses the next topic, judges the winner and then passes on the baton to the new champion.
3. Any photo you’ve taken is eligible, regardless of when taken or camera used.
4. Any amount of post-processing is allowed. However, it is helpful if you list your camera and lens along with your photo.
You may comment on other contestant's images. If you want someone to leave you some critique or criticism, just ask within your post.
5. The winner has up to three days (72 hours) to begin a new mini-challenge, or the honor goes to the #2 finisher and so forth.

Guidelines:
1. Enter 1-3 photos and put them in a single post.
2. Either embed your image in the thread or, if you must, supply a link to it. Keep in mind, however, most people don't want to click to open photos hosted elsewhere (i.e. on your website).
3. Also try and resize your photos prior to posting so they're sized appropriately for viewing without having to scroll (~800 pixels on the longest side works best.)
4. Give each image you enter a title.
5. Enjoy discussion with members about their images, don't let this just be an entry thread!
6. Don't be hesitant, share'em and enter!
Enjoy today, tomorrow is not guaranteed.

My husband wanted a picture of this sign as he was navigating the twisting road down Mount Evans in Colorado. Taken from a moving car but tells the story.

Hello! I'm new here and completely awed by the photographs already posted, but thought I'd throw my hat in the ring anyway. This is a photo of our vehicle's tracks on 90 mile beach in New Zealand, which is sometimes used as an alternative route for highway 1. I think the railroad photos are less of a stretch, but I guess it really depends on the definition of "road". Taken with a Canon Powershot G9. Criticism would be most welcome!

What I great challenge. Roads are one of my favorite subjects, so here goes:

"Foot Traffic" a road in Hong Kong

"30 mph" Central Florida. This was my first shot with a Holga. Some have said it should have been my last shot!

"I Don't Need to Fight" Central Texas - There's a complicated explanation to for the title, so never mind.

Wellll, the short answer is it's from The Who song Baba O'Reilly (most people call it teenage wasteland). I grew up near where this was taken an we had a propensity to start fights on this road (a Texas '60's teenage boy thing I guess) and it gets uglier AND stupider from there, so....

I LOVE my Holga, when the pictures come out they're like little surprises, kinda like opening birthday presents. It's too bad they're so damn trendy!

Ok, I'm a MAJOR newbie both to this forum as well as to photography, sometimes I think I get some pretty good shots. I recently got a Canon SX30 IS and want to learn so much more. I thought challenges would give me something to "shoot" for (pun intended :D). I believe most of these pictures were taken with my older camera though, which is a Canon A710 IS. The last two were taken with the new camera. Sorry for the size, I was trying to figure out how to drag the corners to make them smaller, but it didn't seem to want to work.

I know it was supposed to be paved or dirt, but...since we had a record amount of snow here in CT this year, I thought a snow path might be appropriate too. Thanks for looking. thumb.gif
