I was really sick today.

I was too sick to go to work today.

And I was certainly too sick to wake up before 4:30 this morning and head out to Refugio Beach.

1242514800_GjPgo-XL.jpg

Definitely too sick to hang around for longer exposures.

1242515033_kNFt7-XL.jpg

I certainly did not have the energy to head up Figueroa Mountain, where I didn't see cows grazing in the forest...

1242525674_qoBtf-XL.jpg

...and then get worried they were going to charge me.

1242526638_PbiH4-XL.jpg

I couldn't have climbed out of the gray and above the clouds.

1242672776_mfvGr-XL.jpg
(That shot is straight, I swear. It was shot across a hill.)

Or gathered the energy to take enough shots for a simple pano.

1242673041_538tr-XL.jpg

Maybe I could have laid down under a tree to rest, though.
1242673193_Nc4e6-XL.jpg

I would have shot an IR...

1242521513_JuUo8-XL.jpg

...or two.
1242521353_k5cHs-XL.jpg

Seeing a lupine in a field of poppies surely would have made feel a lot better.

1242673726_3MsYQ-XL.jpg

I could have lain in the flowers...
1242675720_o4jZ4-XL.jpg

...and soaked up the sun....
1242675631_YpkNA-XL.jpg

...and the beauty of nature.
1242675767_wtDi4-XL.jpg

Oh, well. Maybe I'll feel better tomorrow. But somehow, I'm just not sure!

Damn David...I would love to see your stuff on a 'good' day rolleyes1.gif
Really like the two with low lying clouds (but still don't believe that first one is straight...headscratch.gif)
Great IR shots (and I usually don't care for IR...ne_nau.gif)
And a Muench star amidst the flowers! wings.gif

I wish I had done better capturing that magic of the clouds/fog/blue sky. My shots are OK and all, but the scene was just amazing. I'm also not happy with the color on the last poppy. It's not how they look, but I can't recover it. Poppies require a nearly perfect exposure. This one was a little under, and when I raise the exposure in LR on the RAW file it just goes to shit. Still pretty, and all. But it's not how poppies look, and it bugs me.

    OK, I'm done griping. thumb.gif

We've got a little slump in workflow at work, so it works for everyone for me to take a couple of days. I've got tomorrow, too. Not sure what I'm gonna do, yet.

This one is shooting downhill, so it's missing the crazy slant, but I find it to be not as interesting.

Wow, David, you should be sick more often!

I especially like the tree shot and the poppies with the star.

    And the anxious bovine.

Thanks, Jim. Just the other day a friend had told me how a cow had charged her. I got spooked, and nearly tossed my camera in the trunk trying to get in the car. I felt silly, but I'd rather feel silly than mauled. thumb.gif

Oh, and it also looks like you have mastered the art of shooting flowers with the extension tubes. This is totally trippy, dude.

David, I hope you feel better real soon. Whoever took your camera(s) out and did all that hiking and shooting, they did a fantastic job at it. Hope you can join in the fun next time and get some shots on your own - that is - if you can somehow take a day off from work.

Hey, is it contagious? Can I get some? mwink.gif

Gorgeous set. Hard to pick a favorite but I keep going back to that very wide tree shot.

Sorry to hear you were under the weather. I can tell it really rolled over you. I hope I catch what you got. Great shots as usual. The cow in the forest is very striking.

Thanks! I really owe a huge debt to Marc Muench for both of those shots (and all of them, really). Learning from him has really improved my photography. And both of those, that first one, especially, are cribbed from shots I've seen him take in the past.

I wish I'd seen something like these before I did the Strobist HoCo shoot last year - soooo many ideas now in my head that would have served me well then!

    Really fabulous stuff thumb.gif
