I don't get no breaks - a sad story

Hi you'll,

It was a rough day. I went out to the wetlands. As I was leaving I told Linda that I was getting worried because the eagles hadn't returned yet and were overdue. I said it would be nice to get a good eagle shot.

Well the day was lousy, grey and overcast. I spent 3 hours in the wetlands and no eagle. I decided to go to Starbucks for a quick cup. As I was driving down the road there was this bald eagle sitting on a power pole. I passed up the shot. I mean a bald eagle on a power pole is like pineapple on pizza.

On the way back there was that shameless eagle still sitting on the power pole so I decided an eagle on a power pole is better than no eagle at all. So I snapped a few shots. I was on the side of the road with traffic whizzing by so I couldn't set up my tripod and these shots were handheld.

39998654-L.jpg

39998660-L.jpg

I got to the wetlands and as I was entering I saw an osprey sitting on THE TREE. I headed on over there and I saw that the osprey was actually a bald eagle. When I got even closer I saw that there was actually two bald eagles in the tree with one on the lower branch. Be still my foolish heart two, not one but two bald eagles on THE TREE. :clap :clap
Now I had to switch from my 500 to my 80-400 to be able to get both bald eagles in the shot. Naturally as I was in mid lens change one of the eagles took off. :cry No two eagle in THE TREE shot. I don't get no breaks first a power pole now only one eagle. Broken in spirit I snapped off these shots hand held

39998667-L.jpg

I then started to set up my tripod and of course the eagle took off before I could finish. I don't get no breaks. :cry

Nice shots Harry. Don't much like that power pole..either..but at least you saw a damn BOP. I got stuck shooting a couple GBH down at the Intra-coastal waterway again. Oh well....someday I'll find me an eagle. Still no pelicans at "Pelican Alley". I'm getting worried. I have not seen my local dolphin either. Damn.

Not fair, I don't want to hear about your problems when I'm moaning and groaning about my own. eek7.gif

I think there should be some law about eagles and power poles. Oh well, when I get some time maybe I start doing some cloning on those shots.

You know Harry, I am seeing that tree quite a bit now, in various places. I even took a photo of one of the trees like that a few weeks ago. Can't work up/post everything. Didn't think you all would be impressed by an empty tree stump thing.

But with all these perfect perches around here, the birds just arent sitting on them. Not here. Not on power poles either.

I still want to see an eagle, and I take pictures of anything I want to see. However there is no way I am going to get a photo of an eagle like yours. Some of it is just not knowing my camera, settings, etc as well as you do, though I probably shoot as often. I think I am lazier. But part of it is different equipment, I really do think that makes a difference, not the whole difference, but a difference.

I do have some raptor shots from Friday, they are a good hawk. I will work them up when I get to them. They are in the air. Mostly I was getting those turkey vulture things, but some of them are one of those red........ something raptors, pretty. But not as good as yours. None the less, I will work them up.

ginger (I lost my bird book, need to buy a better one anyway. We are getting some strange birds, or they are juveniles. But that is why I appear so stupid on the birds the last few days.)

Any, tell your birds that I have the trees here, just perfect! You all come!!

Thanks Ric. Its funny that you should say that about the power pole because thats what I was thinking when I first viewed the shots on my monitor.

No matter how many times I've seen them its always a thrill. I've missed a few flight shots because I'm almost mesmerized when they spread their wings and take off. Its a magnificent sight.

I've almost run my car off the road a number of times as I watched various birds on the roadside. A few times at the wetlands I've almost ended up in the water when my attention was distracted.
