    More on the Log-in Bug
This really needs to be in the Bug Reporting thread... although I had one going in there a couple weeks ago anyway. I'm just so frustrated that so many people are having this issue and it's not getting the attention it needs. Aaaargh.

Here we go again. This was a problem a few years ago and it lasted forever. Why do I have to log in every damn time I go to my home page? I haven't logged in for ages, now I have to. Not happy! Fix this please. If it is a code problem with the slide show you guys change my code. I didn't do a thing and I don't have the time either.

You seem to be using some old slideshow on your homepage. I'd recommend that you remove that old slideshow and replace it with a current slideshow, like the html5 slideshow.

If you still have an issue after updating your slideshow and removing any old slideshow code, write the HelpDesk.

I don't even have a slideshow on mine and it doesn't seem to matter which uploader I use and I still have to login everytime I go the homepage. So far, it hasn't made me login to individual galleries.

Please write the HelpDesk with a link to the site you see the issue for.

Same problem for me, too. I have to log in every time now. It's totally annoying. Sorry to jump onto the griping bandwagon, but I look forward to seeing this corrected asap.

I have been having the same problem. I have just been using the easy customizer to set my slideshow. Does this matter? If I need to update my slideshow script shouldn't the easy customizer update it for me? Isn't that the beauty of the easy customizer? :D My scripts are blank in the advanced customizer. I am by no means a coder.

If your scripts are blank in advanced customizer, then you are just using the Smugmug slideshow and that is updated automatically by Smugmug whenever they modify it. You do not have a third party slideshow to update.

It was working just fine up "until two days ago". I have no clue how to change to a new slide show and I am to scared to try.

Color Effects & Other Tools affected by Log-in Bug
For those of you tearing your hair out over not being able to use tools during the Log-In mess-- Read this! I simply haven't been able to delve into this mess with Help, etc.; am in a week where I just have to stay on task, & was trying make an Animoto video using my Smug galleries. The problem was that this Log-in issue has often meant I cannot even use the "Color Effects" tool because click on Color Effects & Smug suddenly thought I wasn't logged in. There was no apparent rhyme or reason to it working or not working, but I can tell it's related to the Log-in problem. Well, I just tried one thing that worked for Color Effects at least. I clicked on Color Effects, then when the photos didn't show up in their various iterations like they should, I tried clicking on the "Current" photo (or the little slit where the photo should be). The Log-in box (where you enter your email address & PW) came up! I logged in & I was taken back to the Color Effects tool, where my photos were now showing up!! I was able to go through a whole gallery and fix them! Oh man, I wish I'd have found this out a couple weeks ago. But I'm posting this here so that all of you with these agonizing problems can at least try this until SmugMug gets around to caring to fix this. Like everyone else, I'm rather disgusted that it's not getting the attention needed. It sure doesn't seem to be about slideshows... Please, SmugMug!!

One possible thing for you to check on is if something has changed in the interaction between use of the SM API on a site and the user's login cookie. If this has anything to do with the JFriend HTML5 slideshow, then that is my best guess. The slideshow hasn't changed on these people's sites, but perhaps the SM API's interaction with a user's login cookie has changed recently.

And, a useful test would be to see if you stay logged in as long as you don't go to a page where the API is being used (like the JFriend HTML5 slideshow).

This issue has nothing to do with slideshows of any type. I'm not running any and I can't stay logged in. When you look at how long this has been an issue and how little response from Smugmug, it makes me feel as if our host really doesn't care about us these days!

It definitely feels like there's no one home. It's angering. When you're trying to do a very important project, such as a memorial video or gallery for someone who's just died, it's beyond frustrating that there are no answers to something so many are experiencing. And why isn't this in the "bug" thread by now?

I would suggest that everyone in this thread who does not have someone in Smugmug support working on their behalf on the problem they are having, immediately go here http://help.smugmug.com/customer/portal/emails/new and post about your specific problem. This should get you a one-on-one support contact where you can strive for answers to your specific issue. It is amazing to me that days go by without anyone from Smugmug posting here in this thread when so many are having this issue, but if Smugmug doesn't want to support you here in the forum, then take your issue directly to customer service.

A couple of days ago I posted that my login proglem seemed to have cleared up by updating the code for my slideshow.

Guess what. Problem has reappeared. Went to my site today and had to log in. But at least this time I was logged in throughout the site and didn't have to keep logging in.

We'll see if I continue to have problems or not.

Update: Continuing to have login problems and problems with uploading images.

Update as of Nov 18: No problems for at least a week now.

We're currently investigating an issue with browser cookies not being retained properly in some cases. Right now, if you're not using any slideshow customizations on your site or have made sure that they are up to date, and you're still getting logged out at times, the only workaround I can suggest is to log in again.

We'll update the thread once the issue should be resolved.

    I'm sorry for any inconvenience.

FYI, it may help in investigation.

The issue is working by algorithm:
    Login, close session (start)
Autologin successes in next time (success)
Autologin failes in next session (failure)
    Login, close session (restart)
    Autologin in next time (success)
Autologin failes in next session (failure)

The issue looks like a "trigger". I see the behaviour each time. Same behaviour on different OS (Vista, Windows7), on different networks, on different browsers (IE, FireFox, Chrome). At last time, not always, I see warning message with text something like this (sorry, I don't remeber) "Can't get authentication information"
Exact text from warning dialog: "Could not retrieve account status". I get this dialog after i re-enter login data and press "Login". I get this dialog not each time.

    Same here
    Morning,

Just want to add my vote here and say I am also suffering from this strange need to re-login.
I have sent in a memo to the SM helpdesk and heard from Sebastian that (as he also says above) they are investigating. I will wait and see what happens.

    Regards, Harald

I have been experiencing this since the change to the 'new' account settings. It is really frustrating.

Sebastian, surely, rather than asking everyone posting to this thread to send a report to the helpdesk, you could ask someone at the helpdesk to come here, read and comment, so that we can all see what is happening, rather than each of us getting into a one-on-one situation?

Something new today. Log in every time I close my browser to access my account when I never had to before. Then I am asked to log in again to upload photos, then I decide to change the uploader, oops, gotta log in again to do that. It sure would be nice for someone to get on here and tell us straight up what's going on. Here's a crazy thought. How about an update?

That's a separate issue related to your old slideshow code. The only suggestions I have for you on this are to either update the slideshow (as I suggested before) or to disable it.

This is what I am referring to. When did any of the slideshow code become "old"? I never got that notice from SmugMug or was I just not paying attention that day? I will try as you suggest. Thank you for your time.
