73rocks: That's interesting and will definitely give me something to try. I'll try bumping up the sharpness and see what happens.
I'm not familiar with calibrating a lens with the camera but I'll see what I can learn and will give that a try also. thanks!
Don't worry about calibration right now. When you can reliably get the AF system to focus on the subject you intend and you can track them in servo mode reasonably, then it might be time to worry about the fine-tuning.
That's not to say I don't believe in MFA... I do. It's just that it isn't even remotely related to the issues you are having right now.
