Harry, I've gotten the same thing many times, I've never gotten the same thrill from taking landscapes, maybe it's because a sunset can't rip your arm off if you make a mistake.. :)

Ed, these are both great. Is the first a wolf or coyote? Is the second a brown or black bear? Brown bears are the same as grizzly bears, right? I saw "Grizzly Man" and I think they might want to eat you and can do so if they want to. I don't know about wolves vs coyotes in terms of danger.

There are people who are at least as dangerous as any wildlife. And less rational.
    If not now, when?

Hey Rutt, the first is a Coyote and the second is a black bear and he was a big one. You are correct, Brown bears are the same as a grizzly. I've read about that grizzly guy, trust me, I'm not trying to pet them on the nose. That guy was nuts...

and I couldn't agree more with your statement above, some people are every bit as dangerous if not more so..

Now for the other side. What I see in many (myself included) is that my best wildlife shots (and motorcyle racing) were not what I thought I was shooting. while my best still life and portrait is just what I thought I was shooting. Untill one gets to your level one will think that good shots just require lots of frames.

Therefore I think he didn't know enough to comment.

    Harry my take on this......
I have had a similar argument :argue with my buddy who is a non tech old school type.
He thinks if a camera has auto this and that (or anything that says DIGITAL)it's a toy and anyone can get a good pic with one.
"if it's not all manual and requires you to use some real math/thinking it's not photography" basically his exact words.
Tried to tell him more and more pro's are going digital......He says they aren't real photographers then.
Was watching the USC vs Texas game the other night....end of the game they were showing the players celebrating on the field.....every camera I saw was a digital!(bout 6-8 of em popped into view in one shot on the TV)

Now on this portrait/landscape bit......those are things you see everyday!
People overlook the smaller scale of Nature in general.
To do macro photography for example takes as much if not more skill than any portrait or landscape!!
As for birds.......people have the arrogant attitude that they are noisey...messy and poop all over their $30,000 car. How asinine!
Birds are a very beautiful important part of ecology. All the bugs they eat....the seeds they spread. Not to mention many are very elusive and hard to get shots of.:D
Heron's are especially hard with out a good zoom!

People look at wild flowers as weeds till they see a nice close shot of em.
Nobody takes the time to slow down from the everyday hustle to take a good look at the things in nature.
Everything has it's purpose.....some are beautiful and some aren't ALL are important and deserve a look..

You just keep taking those GREAT bird shots :harry and the hell with the wide angle guys like that! :crazy

    Yeah I'm a Bird lover....SO.....:toni :D

Ok I'm off my :soapbox now. :D

tell them the flight of birds has mesmerized humans for centuries including the fascination for flying, eventually giving humans ideas for airplanes. Too bad they miss out on all the elegance of the challenge.rolleyes1.gif But then again, some humans don't want to be challenged....:D
