I'm afraid i have to totally agree with dennis, ive just taken a look and there is nothing left of my old site i customised myself in the new site. im no computer wizard and it took me a long time to get my current site how i like it and now it seems i will have to fully start again, its far from obvious to me how i can do it. so im pretty unimpressed to be honest :/

I picked a new template, don't like it and want to look at another. I don't have a back button. How do I get back to the main screen with all the templates ? I have signed out and back in, it takes me to the first template I chose.

Again, you are just in a preview mode if you migrate. It's a sandbox that you can play in :). No changes will be pushed live unless you click "unveil" then literally type in "unveil" into the text box on your migrated SmugMug site. Feel free to play around, you won't break anything!
Ok, but what I'm not understanding or not hearing answered clearly is: Once you've even simply tried the "Preview;' mode (which I assume is the only way to see what your site will look like in the new system), can you really, truly, ever go back to simply having your site be as it is now? It sounds like "migration" (even if you haven't hit unveil) will make it impossible to even have the option of going back.

Yes, I understand that "Preview" is a sandbox to play in, but I still need to know the absolute clear answer on the above. And then I need to know also exactly what happens when I create a new gallery (once I've hit "Preview" OR even now!) This stuff has really been clear as mud, and very frustrating because it's so unclear! So.. if I make a new gallery:

    1. Where does it go?

    2. Who sees it?

    3. Can it be in only one category, which is "Smugmug Preview"?

    4. Can new galleries be created in either mode (Legacy and Preview)??

    5. Can I be logged in AND logged out in both Legacy and Preview mode now?

I'm having fun, but I'd have more fun if my galleries/pictures migrated over to my new site which is empty :(
That's horrible. I sure hope someone is helping you with this. This is the kind of thing that gives me nightmares. And I haven't even begun to broach the subject of how SmugVault works now.

    gallery slide show settings
I got my homepage slide show to work, just like my custom one on my legacy site. It was not intuitive at all but I accidentally figured it out.

For some reason when I try to make the same settings for a gallery, there are no adjustments or settings, just a grey box that says "Gallery Content" where the slide show will be.

my simple requirement for a website is that vertical and horizontal images be the same size. nearly all photo websites discriminate against vertical images by making them 1/3 the size of horizontal images.

It would also be nice to control the speed and transitions as well.

Wow, I must say, I think some of the people on this thread would complain no matter what was delivered. I am not even convinced it will be perfect for me, but it will take time to understand the how to apply all of the new features, you need to play with it. I can't imagine how within hours people are posting with such comments as "So Disappointed" blah blah blah. Spend some time working with it, and if there are suggestions you have put them through the channels.

This is a completely new and extensible frame work. Go have some fun and get creative, not mad.

    Peace

John, how did you get your homepage slideshow to work in the new format? Could you please explain? Thanks,

How long does the "Rounding up your stuff" usually take? Been about 15 minutes now.

.oh wait... it is done and there is nothing there to see and I am being asked to Unveil it. lol Unveil what? I thought I would be able to customize some stuff. Methinks something is a tad broken.

Think I shall try again. :)

do not hit "unveil" until you want to replace your existing site with the new one

Might be a while since there are probably hundreds of others switching over now too. I wouldn't expect it to take more than 20-30 minutes. I'm migrating one of my sites over right now and it's been going for 5 minutes. I'll try to edit this post when it finishes.

Oh and do not click Unveil until you are ready to publish live to the world.

Well.. I knew that! I would just like to see something after the preview does it's thing. Two attempts and nothing so far except a blank page with the Unveil option.

That's been around for a long time. It replaced "PicNik". It's not all that different from PicNik, except for one very important thing (imho).... it does not squash images to a smaller number of pixels. PicNik, due to some Flash restriction, always compressed the images, or wouldn't allow images over a certain size to be output, which was rather unacceptable. PicMonkey is still saving a Jpeg from a Jpeg, etc, so you get some artifacting... sometimes quite nasty artifacting if you do too much in the special effects. But if you just need to do some quick fixes on a snapshot that you don't plan to sell for stock or whatever, it's OK. I also use it for some kinds of watermarking for Panoramio.

I started with a template (Theme) Diana, I deleted everything and started from scratch. I have been furiously going in circles trying to find things that work. I am trying to remember exactly what I did.

Nothing is white. Each element must have its color and or dimension and orientation changed.

    Layout stretchy

    Fill Hight ON

Top Margin and Bottom Margin are 3 Side Margin 10

Header and Footer are 1 px. This may cause problems But I haven't checked yet. may also be unnecessary

    Body Width is 1800px

    Sidebars Left ON

    Left Width 240px

    Right sidebar OFF

Pinning Section LEFT ( Keeps menu from scrolling )

then you play around with Content by dragging Content Blocks around.

drag the toolbar into the left box and then change it to vertical

That is as far as I have gotten.
