Smugmg, are you listening to your paid users? This should not be difficult to implement as you have done it before

    Absolutely right.

+1 for this much needed feature re-instatement

Heh, I came here looking for this too.

It's even more glaringly wrong when you have the same image in multiple folders (due to how Smugmug and Lightroom interact) and it's showing the same image for each parent folder.

It's a feature that's still in my original Smugmug site, so it doesn't feel like an onerous request?

You would think it would be a piece of cake, given that legacy code already does this. But here we sit... A couple of months now.

Is there a published list of things that smugmug are working on?

They can't...if they were to make such a list visible, then competition would be drooling! Then legal battles and risk to the beauty that makes SmugMug unique. Be patient. Awesome things will come when the time is right. clap.gif

    Good news guys!

I just checked by chance the slideshow settings on my homepage this morning and... the option to randomize images in finally there!!!!
    Woohoo :)

Just go to your slideshow, then: Settings > Playback > Randomize images > select ON.

Thats good... but it isnt there for the homepage yet as far as I can see.

I am selection - Customize, customize site, then in the "on homepage" section I have an option for Multiple photos. In the settings for this multiple photos there is a "select from" section and this has a number of options - but not random...

    ?

I assume you can only pull images from one gallery or one smart gallery? Can't list multiple galleries, ehh?

So far, no you can't use multiple galleries..

I understand it is now there for slideshow.

Part of the discussion was around randomizing the pictures that show up on a home page.

See my site as an example - http://www.myeyespy.com

The photographs are currently showing in newest first order. I wanted to have them be random...

    Hi Neil,

I think you need to create a slideshow for that.

The very first post in this thread was a question from TonyStewart - the same as mine. It wasnt about slideshows...

I had a look. So maybe you could assign a keyword to all of your photos and then get it to select that keyword as the source...

I am not interested in a slideshow. I do not like waiting for them. ....I want a selection of photos on the front page that will change position each time the page is loaded......randomly.

You could do that if you only want grid layout (not collage) by running custom code on a second server which you display using the feed block.

I posted this randomisation request in August, it is now November and it still isn't available? Why not? Can we have this please? My home page looks static and it really shouldn't be. 3-4 months is a long time to wait for something that should be relatively straight forward to implement. A response would be a good start. Thanks guys.

Thread seems to have died, just another one of the items holding me back from migration for over a year.

Has anyone found a work around?

Actually, randomization on the home page has been available for awhile now. Back before November. I know ... because in November they broke randomization of slide shows in events. And I've been waiting since November for them to fix that bug. (sigh)

At least the other slide shows work now....

I looked at your homepage, what are you trying to randomize? Are those thumbs created in an html box?

I liked the function with smugmug legacy that would randomize what the feature photo was for the gallery, as well as sub-category. Not looking for random slideshow photos.

Still haven't found the best way or how to do this with the new layout.

On your homepage what type of boxes are those and how did you fill them?

You could add html boxes and place the same thumbs that will randomize and link to a gallery.

EDit: guess I looked at someone else's homepage. Yours is still in legacy.
But, you could construct the same type page with randomized thumbs.

This is what holds me back from moving to new SmugMug.

You might want to add your comment to the feature request for Random Thumbnails.
